The warm summer breeze gently carried dried leaves across the road as the extinguishing sun lowered from the sky and lightly kissed the earth. Now normally, I would’ve been in awe at this spectacular moment… Too bad I was too busy worrying over my life to marvel at Mother Nature at her finest.

“FML FML FML,” I chanted burying my pale face into the sweaty palms of my hands. “Why must I be so sought after by men???” Our crazy followers were hot on our tails, their shiny Escalade just a few feet behind us as the sky began to darken. Oh great, now its dark too!

“Don’t flatter yourself,” Kayden scoffed. “You’re just worth A LOT of money…”

“Gee thanks…” I mutter rolling my eyes.

I craned my stiff neck down towards a (surprisingly) sleeping Ryann on my lap and sighed loudly. He was caught in a horrible situation with a sexy ass kidnapper and spoiled California girl… he definitely didn’t deserve this crap!

“Hang on,” Kayden stated as he once again made a sharp turn jerking the whole car to the left, hoping to lose the Escalade in the process. Like I said, FML!

I shifted uncomfortably in my seat and drew a shaky breath as my rapidly beating heart continually attempted to thump out of my chest; I was a nervous wreck! The Escalade had been shooting at us until they ran out of bullets and we were extremely lucky they had crappy aim. And to top it all off, it was a menacing color; black. I mean, what if the car was a different color… like… say purple? See, if it was purple, I wouldn’t be so nervous…

UGHHH, my point is; a black car following you while shooting bullets is A LOT scarier than a pink one…

It’s a wonder how no cops have spotted us yet…

I looked down at Ryann and began stoking his face with the tips of my shaking fingers. Poor guy didn’t deserve this crap.

Kayden suddenly reached over to the glove compartment and swiftly pulled out his shiny gun. As soon as I laid my eyes on the lethal weapon, my weak stomach violently clenched with stirring butterflies and I resisted the repulsive urge to puke in the car right then and there. I hate weapons…

Driving with one hand while loading the gun with the other; Kayden turned to me with a completely serious expression and stated the most idiotic thing you could say at the moment, “Take the wheel.” WHAT. THE. HELL?!

I sat there dumbfounded with my mouth slightly open as a dribble of drool ran down the side of my jaw. I quickly wiped it away. “Pardon?!” I screeched, my voice jumping an octave higher. “You want me to WHAT?”

“Take the wheel,” he stated coolly, his intense stare on the rear view mirror holding my eyes as he made another sharp turn to the right sending me smack into the window. It was then when I realized that the entire time, Kayden kept the same calm demeanor up. Come to think of it, he remained completely calm when we first spotted the car. Oh my god, he was still calm when they started to pick up speed and come closer, HECK, he was even calm when the goons (or ‘The Brotherhood’ as he prefers to calls them) started shooting! Holy Cow, the boy basically kept his face an emotionless mask even when danger looked him in the eye. And I thought he was an amateur…

“Why???” was my genius response as he threw me an exasperated look.

“Like the Nike motto, JUST. DO. IT,” he hissed through clenched teeth and made another sharp turn causing me to wince in pain as my sore head banged against the window once more.
