~ Kayden ~
“Fruit Salad, Yummy Yummy!” McKenzie horribly screeched on the top of her lungs as we cruised through a small town. “FRUIT SALAD, YUMMY YUMMY!” Damn, I hate the Wiggles!
“McKenzie is a, dummy dummy,” I happily retorted with equally as much enthusiasm.
“Kayden isn’t funny, funny!”
“This song is, annoyingly punny!”
“AAAAEERRNNNNHHH!!!” McKenzie faked a horrible imitation of a buzzer. “WRONG!”
“What?” I laughed amusedly, “I sang it to the damn Wiggles tune!”
“But you didn’t follow the rhyme scheme!” she pointed out. “You were supposed to say, ‘this song is, punny punny’!”
“FINE,” I scoffed defensively, “This song is, punny punny! THERE! Better?”
“Much,” she smiled satisfyingly, sinking back into her seat and nodding her head along to some imaginary beat. I think she’s high…
Then it hit me, the idea striking my gut like a wrecking ball, forcing me to take a sharp intake of breath from the realization. “Holy crap! We nee-“
“Uh uh uh,” McKenzie scolded, “Say it in the form of a song… preferably Fruit Salad…”
Okay W.T.F… she was definitely high…
“Errr… we need some, money money?”
“Shit your right,” she exclaimed, jolting from her seat.
“Uh uh uh,” I mimicked her previous tone. “In the form of Fruit Salad missy!”
“Bu-”
“AAAAEERRNNNNHHH,” I cut off her objection by mockingly imitating the same poor buzzer sound she did moments ago. “You need to put that in the form of a song!”
“Smart ass,” Kenize mumbled under her breath, a warm hint of blush escaping to her cheeks.
“AAAAEERRNNNNHHH!”
“FINE! Shit you’re right…” McKenzie shrunk into her seat, glowering behind the curtain of hair that concealed her beautiful eyes. I turned to look at her and almost immediately, oxygen was lodged in my throat. You know that saying, ‘caught my breath’, or ‘breathtaking?’ Yeah, that’s exactly what she was doing.
The warm sunlight filtered through the glassy windows of the car and reflected off her chestnut colored hair divinely as it cascaded over her shoulders. The sun danced off the warm color of her cream blouse and emphasized her deep, hazel eyes while bringing out the small green specks sparkled in them. In the light, you could see the length of her perfect lashes, long and delicate. And every time she blinked, it would lightly brush her cheekbones in the most graceful way. Like I said, breathtaking…
Snap out of it Kayden, you’re not supposed to fall for her! I hated how vulnerable I felt in this situation. Kenzie was something special and sure I promised myself I’d steal her from Keith… only to realize our relationship would never work out if she found out all the nasty little secrets I’ve keeping this entire time. I can’t fall for her! Remember; NO FEELINGS WHATSOEVER KAYDEN!
“- honey honey…”
“Huh?” I was confused. Did she just call me ‘honey’?!
Rolling her eyes, she repeated her statement. “I said, shit you’re right… honey honey.”
