Elaine had ran out of tears by now. She had packed her bags and had said her goodbyes to her aunt and uncle who had adopted her after her parents' death. She was being lead to a hotel room as Cristoforo's guards were carrying her luggage and showing her the way.
Cristoforo was standing next to an open door looking at his watch " You are late."
Elaine was just too tired to even argue " I am sorry. It took long to say goodbye."
Cristoforo liked that Elaine was learning her lesson. If she defied him, he was not going to hesitate hurting those she loved. He demanded respect from everyone including his own woman.
As the guards put her luggage in the room and left, Cristoforo entered the room and closed the door " You don't need to unpack everything. Just get changed and come to bed ... with my ring."
Elaine took out her night dress from her suit case and stood up looking at Cristofero. " Where is the bathroom?"
Crkstofero pointed to a small door in the room " Over there. But.....We are not strangers." He then walked to her and blocked her path " I want you to get changed here. Come on."
Elaine spoke " But we are strangers. I haven't seen you in a while and you have changed. I can't get changed in front of you..."
Cristofero reached for her blouse and started unbuttoning it with one hand as he had gripped her other hand" Let me help you."
Elaine breathed " Stop. I don't want to. It's bad enough I have to sleep in the same room as you. Why can't you give me some space?" She didn't put it past him to force her to do anything he wanted. He was Cristoforo. She didn't even know why she bothered. He got everything either way by blackmail and force.
Cristoforo sighed and and let go of her "I like your modesty. Fine, but when we leave this hotel and get to my home, you will be expected to warm up to me by then. You will be my wife. What's the point of putting off the inevitable?"
Elaine nodded and walked away to the bathroom as she let out the breath she was holding. She hated his bossiness and demands but what was she to do? He had the sense of entitlement to everything. He thought he could have everything and he could in many ways but she was determined not to lose her dignity. That was all that was left for her after he had taken the choice and freedom away from her. She had been intimidated into packing up fast to meet his hour deadline. His men reminded her of instructions. She couldn't believe how Cristoforo treated her like she was just a business. Venture and not a person. He dehumanised her by making her watch a man get beaten up in a sack and claim it was her uncle when it wasn't. What kind of sick person did that? He was a monster but at least he let her have her dignity for now. She hoped she could retain her dignity at least.
As Elaine came out of bathroom she saw him on the double bed laying down in nothing but a pair of shorts. She looked away " Can you cover yourself up with the covers?" She was blushing. He was handsome for sure. She didn't want to fancy him. This sick monster didn't deserve her forgiveness after how he had treated her.
Cristoforo spoke " Get used to it.its hot because of the fire place. I never use covers. Now come here to my bed."
Elaine sighed " Why can't I have my own bed? I will sleep on the couch,"
Cristoforo spoke "Whether you like it or not we will share our bed. If you want to be difficult, I could always teach you what happens when you defy me again. Be warned I get quite creative when I want to teach lessons. More like you. You are a school teacher or rather you wanted to be. You create lessons and so do I for people who deserve to be taught a lesson."
Elaine sighed and tried not to look at him as she walked to the bed " This is the most outrageous way you have compared yourself to me. You are a cold blooded murderer but I am not." She then got into the bed beneath the covers. Looking away and trying to keep away from Cristoforo which he didn't appreciate.
Cristoforo demanded " Look at me and get a bit closer. You go any further you may fall off the edge. We will go slow and I won't touch you tonight. But I cant let you get away with all these remarks... I don't think I like your attitude. I am to be your husband soon. Also I don't deny that. I am a cold blooded killer so watch your attitude." He then got closer to her. He laid down in his side and grabbed her chin turning her face towards him " You are allowed to get smart with me. You can argue in the bedroom just because I let you. But if you don't know your place I might take away that privilege. Don't give me smart come backs in public. Do you understand?"
                              Elaine didn't respond but nodded.
Cristoforo spoke " Good. Also look at me when we are in bed. I don't like you ignoring me."
Elaine sighed " What do you want me to do? Just stare at you? You hurt me today? How can you act like nothing happened?"
Cristoforo laughed " I did not hurt you. I played a joke on you. I didn't think you cry so much. Would you have rather I did the real thing and didn't joke?"
Elaine looked into his eyes " You think my uncles life is a joke? It's not to me. I agreed to come with you just so you don't hurt my family."
Cristoforo spoke " I will be your family. We will have a strong family. You will come home with me and we will build a proper life together."
Elaine asked the question she was worried about asking " Cristoforo? Can I go to work when I come with you?"
Cristoforo spoke " Why would you need to work. I will provide for you."
Elaine tried to reason with him " But I can't do nothing in the house,,,,""
Cristoforo stated " If you get bored you can tutor De Luca. He doesn't need that much help but still he could use some help. Apart from that. I just want you to stay at home and greet me when I return with open arms. I will go over the full list of rules when we get back."
Elaine was looking at Cristoforo with shock " I need to work. Why can't I go to work. This is what I want."
Cristoforo stated " No. You will stay at home. You won't be a housewife. I don't want you to cook and clean. We have servants for that. You just will stay indoors waiting for me. If you are good I might allow you more freedom. But for now I won't let you out of my sight. We need to work on our relationship. You took off my ring for a reason. Until you accept me and treat me more respectfully you will be just on house arrest in my house. Do you understand?"
Elaine wanted to say "not really" but she could say she had pushed him too far. She could tell by the look in his eyes he was waiting for her to insult him beyond the boundaries and then he could get an excuse to hurt her or teach her a lesson. She knew when to stop. She had spent long enough time in the past in his company to recognise his tone and his mood. He never used to be so cold but he always was demanding and had a dangerous glint in his eyes when he was angry and displeased even with the smallest matters. She was so wary of him but she did love some part of him but that was in the past.... She wished he had forgotten her by now. She wished he fell for someone else who maybe cared for his money and his inheritance enough to overlook his criminal life style... She had fallen in love with this brute years ago and it was too late to run away.
