Hey. My names Skylar Blue. I live in the small town of Ashbourne. I have a little sister Emilia. My mum and dad Sarah and Mike. My eyes are a bright green. Almost emerald. I'm not your average 16 year old girl. Nah. I'm a Gifted. The gifted are a race of humans who have special blood and are given gifts when they are born.
I'm special. I'm different. I'm powerful. Everyone has different gifts. Nobody has exactly the same. Years ago a Gifted had the gift of seeing the future. Foreseeing. She had foreseen that a Gifted child with the gift of elements shall be put up against a dark force. That child will either be the saviour of human kind. Or the destruction of our world.
By chance, or destiny.... I'm that child. I have the power to use the elements. I have been taught from a young age that my destiny was to defeat a user of dark magic. Mum used to help me with my gifts. Dad used to train me to protect myself. But. They weren't here anymore. I was on my own.
I shifted in my seat. I tugged my dress. Who knew this beautiful white lace dress could be the dress I was kidnapped in. I touched my Gifted necklace for reassurance.
Every Gifted were given a necklace when they are born. Normally they are solid crystals or stones. One colour. But mine is a mixture of pinks, blues, greens, oranges and many other colours.
I touched the cool surface. I felt the power radiating in the stone. I watched the trees and buildings whizz by as we drove out of town. I wanted to ask something. But to be honest. I was afraid. Was this the dark magic user? This person? I hadn't seen their face yet. Who were they?
Slowly I turned to the person. He looked over at me. Grey eyes glinted in the shadow of his hood. I blinked. Those eyes... I had seen them before. He turned away. I stared at him. I couldn't see much. He sighed as if feeling my gaze. He pulled down his hood.
"Better?" He said sarcastically. He had blonde spiky hair. High cheekbones. Long lashes. Light grey eyes. With a stab of pain, I realised I knew this person.
"Casimir?" He swallowed and gritted his teeth.
"You used to call me Cas." He said blankly. I stared at him. Casimir had been my best friend since practically birth. He was my best friend before Abby. We were together everyday for 10 years. We did everything together. But... That was before he disappeared. He went missing. On my birthday. He had left me a note on my pillow saying how we would always be friends and some other stuff. A necklace was laid out with it. A silver heart with a C and S in the middle. I always wore it.
I touched it now. A tear rolled down my cheek.
"Casimir?" I repeated. The corner of his mouth lifted.
"Hey Skylie." He said using the nick name he gave me. I relaxed in my chair. I looked at my hands. I had lost my family. My friend. And I had just gained my old friend who supposedly went missing. My life was a ruin.
"What are you thinking?" He asked quietly. I clenched my hands and unclenched them.
"Thinking about how my life has turned in the past hour." I whispered.
We plunged back into silence. I fiddle with the windows and radio.
"Where did you go?" I asked. He didn't respond.
"Casimir! This is important. I spent an entire year looking for you. But they told me to give up. You left me!" I shouted. He looked over at me wide eyed.
"You tried to find me?" He asked. I nodded. Tears rolled down my face like Niagara Falls.
"I'm sorry Sky. I had to leave. Had to find out about my gift. Mum wasn't going to tell me...." I zoomed in on one thing. Gift. Did he say gift? I'm pretty sure he said gift. Yup started with a G and ended with a T. He definitely said gift.
"Your a Gifted?" I whispered. He looked over at me.
"Yup. Same as you.... Though your more powerful than anyone right?" He smirked. I looked down. He had known the whole time what I was. And yet he didn't tell me what he was.
"What's your gift?" I whispered reluctantly. I was mad at him. He left me. And I wouldn't let him back into my life that easily.
"I can freeze time and people. Yours is fire?" It was more of a question. I looked up.
"No. I have the power of all the elements." I said. He looked at me startled.
"That's you? All I was told was that I had to find you and protect you. They didn't say you were the one from the prophecy." He said more to himself then me.
"Whose they?"
"I went to a school. A school in Australia. It was quieter where we were. And we had the time to practise our gifts. Me and my two friends Ethan and Nicholas were told about the prophecy. Because we were the most powerful in all of the school of Gifted."
I nodded and curled up. A thought occurred to me.
"Did you kill my family?" I asked.
"No. I was watching you. But then this black mist surrounded the house. I smelt the smoke. Your parents saw me and knew I was there to protect you. So they let me in and told me it was time for you to go." My eyes snapped up to meet his. He was telling the truth. Black mist? It had the power to start a fire? What. The. Hell. We sat in silence. Though this time we were content to simply drive quietly, consumed in our thoughts. Black mist. I bolted upright.
"Oh my god!" I bursted out. The car swerved as Casimir jumped in surprise. "Don't do that!"
"The black mist! Dark magic. An evil force! My destiny! The prophecy! It's finally coming together!" My words tumbled over each other. His eyes went wide. He punched the steering wheel. I jumped at his anger.
"They can't have you! Your going to win! And I'm not going to let them hurt you!" He said. I stared at him. Who was this boy? My knight in shining armour? I didn't know what to say. So I sat back. I looked out the window.
"Where are we going?"
"To meet my friends."
"Why?" There was a pause as he considered his words.
"Because they are supposed to help me protect you."
Protect me? The weight of my destiny was finally settling in. This was real. This was happening. This was a life or death situation. I sucked in a deep breathe. I was going to win.___________________________
