Your P.O.V
Your hand shook as you attempted to fasten up the back of your dress. You were nervous. You hadn't gone on a date since you returned to Gotham and Bruce was the top of the pyramid. You felt your Nana's hands wrap around yours, comforting you. "You'll be fine dear. It's not like you haven't dated before." You tightened your grip on her hand as you looked at yourself in the mirror.
You had on a long black silken dress. The dress flowed over your body and around your neck, covering all but your back. There here hints if silver on the edges that match wonderfully with your jewelry and bag. If your sister was still alive, you should call you a princess. Your nana finished fastening up the dress at the neck. "Besides dearie. Gossip tells Mr. Wayne hasn't officially dated in years. I'm sure he's also nervous." She said warmly.
You gave her a smile and stood up, checking one final time for any flaws you missed. Seeing everything was to your liking, you glanced at the clock. Bruce was a pick you up at 7. It was currently 6:45. You still had a few minutes to spare. Just then, your assistant walked in, your phone in hand. "Your mother Ms." She said, handing your the device. You internally cringed but answered the FaceTime anyway.
"Hello Mother!" You said, smiling. Her forehead was all your could see. "Y/N! Why so fancy?" You smiled. "Your face is to close to the screen again. Lean back a bit." You advised her. She leaned back and you were able to look her in the eye. "Here good?" She asked, reached off the screen to grab her wine glass. You waved your hand and excused you nana and assistant form the room. "So what' she occasion sweetie-pie?" She said taking a sip. "Another meeting?" You shook your head. "No this time it's a date."
Your mother straitened up in her chair and leaned closer. "And who might be the lucky man?" You blushed slightly. "Bruce Wayne." Your mother let out a fan-girlish scream. "Oh Y/N! That's simply fabulous! Think of how much the business will prosper with a man like that joining us!" You frowned. "Mom... Mother." You corrected. "This date isn't with any business intent. I am simply giving him the change he's earned." Her smile dropped to a slight frown. "But maybe if the date works out we can discuss business plans. I've already told him I'm not interested in it for now."
"He offered and you refused!?" You mother said angrily. "Yes. I felt compelled to do what was best for our name not profits." You mother shook her head. "I may of disagreed with your father on many things but we both agreed to do whatever was best for the business not for our personal pride." You thought back to the Joker's threat and scoffed. "And how well did your marriage turn out?" You mother's face became ugly. "You know full well it wasn't our marriage that ruined anything." You tried to keep the thought of your sister from coming back into your head. "But maybe if you had been around more instead of Nana." You mother leaned in, angry fire in her eyes. "The Dehai family does whatever they need to for the sake of Gotham. Even if it means it breaks their heart." She said before hanging up.
You sat in silence, clutching your phone. Your mother's coldness was unnerving to you. You cared for the company but also for yourself. "I bet you loved it more than us." You mumbled aloud. Just then, footsteps made their way down the hall and to your room. "Ms. Dehai!" You assistant said panting. "He's here." You node and made your way out of the room, grabbing your purse on the way out.
As you made your way down the stairs, you saw Alfred and your Nana talking together and Bruce standing by the door, hands in pockets. As the soles of your shoes left the carpet and met the tile floor with a click, his head shot up. You gave a small smile and he returned it. "You look... Amazing." He said as he met you at the base of the stairs. You smiled. "Thank you. Same goes for you." He nodded. "Shall we go?" He asked as he held out his arm. You smiled and accepted the gesture. "By all means." He walked you down the steps and opened the car door for you.
Slipping inside the limo, you smiled at Bruce. He seemed much different than his business self though still on guard. Maybe that was just his personality. Bruce walked around the limo and slid into the seat next to yours. "Ready?" He asked. You nodded. "Then let's go."
~TIME SKIP~
Dinner was going amazing. Bruce was holding back on his negative comments and you were having a marvels time talking about your personal love for politics. "Having moved around so often, I didn't have much time for friends. While my sister was more quiet, I aimed be become well known in student government." You said. Your empty plate and full wine glass had made your cheeks glow. You took another sip from your glass. "It seemed to us that the world was our own little playground. You would fall, scrape a knee, but keep on fooling around."
You giggled. "In fact," You said looking around the restaurant. "We played in this very place, running around, hiding under other people's tables." Bruce chuckled. "Playground indeed." Then his face hardened. In a low voice, he leaned over closer to you. "What really happened to your sister?" The events came flooding back and your eyes teared up. You put your hand over your mouth. "Y/N? Y/N. It's ok. You don't have to tell me." You shook your head. "I'm sorry." You wiped your eye. "I'm sorry." You said, this time more clearly. "No matter how many years go by, it still hurts." Bruce nodded. "I know."
You sat in silence before Bruce stood up, throwing some money on the table. "Come on. Let's take a walk." You nodded and took his hand. The pair of your made your ways outside and away from the painful memories that had lumped up in your throat. As you made you way outside, you saw a group of paparazzi sitting around. "Oh no." You mumbled. Bruce followed your gaze. "This way." He said, pulling your in the opposite direction.
"Where are we going?" You asked. "Somewhere quiet." He said. The two of your made it over to the Gotham City Park. Unlike most of the parks in Gotham, this one was quiet, beautiful, and peaceful. Bruce slipped between the half closed gates and onto the stone walkway. You stepped onto the uneven surface and tripped. You shoes weren't designed for this sort of terrain. "Ahh-". Bruce caught you. You felt blood rush to your cheeks. You were inches from his face. You wanted to badly to kiss him again but you didn't want to make the first move.
You quickly stood up and took off your shoes, letting your feet take the shape of the ground below. "Did your sister and you ever come here?" Bruce asked. You shook your head. "No. We always wandered about the gardens at home. Why?" Bruce nodded. "Just wondering." The both of your were silent. Then, Bruce spoke. "My parents and I often passed though here on the way to the theater. Looks like it hasn't changed a bit." You felt a drop of water hit your collarbone. You quickly touched your eye to make sure you weren't crying. You weren't.
You looked as the cloudy skies of Gotham burst open, sending rain onto you and Bruce. You attempted to cover yourself with your arms, but to no avail. There was no cover out in the garden except the trees with didn't do much. But as soon as the rain had started, it stopped. You looked up to see Bruce pull you close over the protection of his jacket. You blushed as the palm of your hand fixed itself next to his chest. You had never thought about it until now but it was clear Bruce worked out. You cheeks rose in temperature again, luckily hidden by the dim night.
"This way." Bruce said. "There's a gazebo we can wait in until Alfred comes." Bruce said as he placed his arm around your waist, ushering you in the right direction. You nodded and quickly followed his large steps. The two of you walked for two or three mixtures in silence, the only sound being the rain. You squinted through the downpour and notified a white gazebo in the distance. It reminded you of a ghost, the way it shone in the light.
You made your way up the stairs and under the roof. Bruce removed the jacket from over you but not his arm. You turned slightly, facing him head on. Your blush only grew in intensity as he dropped his soaked jacket to the ground and pulled you close. You tried to ask his what he was doing but words would not form in your mouth. "Y/N?" He asked, confusion lacing his words. "Are you cold? You're shaking like a leaf." You shook your head. "J-just nervous." You admitted. Bruce smiled. "You're teeth are chattering too. I don't want to be responsible for you getting a cold." You were going to make a snarky comment back but his next action took you off guard
Bruce wrapped his arms around you, pressing his body against yours. You felt your cheeks heat up as Bruce's body warmed your cold one. You were tense for a few moments, but after a bit, you became more relaxed. Not super relaxed but definitely calmer and warmer. As you took a deep sigh out, you felt Bruce's lips touch the top of your head, his breath brushing over your hair. You froze as he kissed your head. You scrambled out of his grip, clutching your cheeks. You turned around and faced him, face inches from his.
Like gravity and a balloon to the ground, your faced inched closer to one another before hitting each other. Your lips automatically bent into his, filling any space air could pass through. It felt so familiar even though you had only done it once before. His arms wrapped around your waist and your around his neck. You lungs screamed for air but you refused, holding on tight to the moment at hand.
Then you heard someone clear their throat. You and Bruce quickly broke contact and looked at the newcomer. Alfred stood under the umbrella, grinning. "Should I leave and come back later Master Bruce?" Bruce stumbled with his words. "U-uh. No! No! We're coming." Alfred walked up and handed Bruce and you an umbrella. Looking down at the coat, Alfred clicked his tongue. "Master Bruce what have you done to your coat? It was new!" He exclaimed.
~TIME SKIP~ (Another one because I'm not going to explain the silent ride home)
The three of your made it back to your families mansion without any conversation. To be fair, Alfred talked the entire time about Bruce's jacket trouble over the years and how he became an amazing sewer over the years but that was it. Bruce and your occasionally locked eyes, but you were to nervous to start any conversation.
Alfred opened the door to the limo and let your out. The walkway above your driveway helped block the torrent of rain from touching you. "Thank You Alfred." He smiled. "Anytime. Next time I'll remind myself to come a little late." He said winking. Your face, that hadn't quite returned back to it's original color, turned beet red. Alfred grinned and walked back to the car.
You felt Bruce tap your shoulder and you looked into his eyes. "I'm sorry about your jacket." You said apologizing. Bruce shook his head. "No no. It's quite alright. It was worth it. You don't seem to have a cold." You smiled. "I don't suppose you're staying." You said. Bruce shook his head. "Not tonight. I am rather wet still and need to dry out." You nodded.
Bruce looked at your and gave a small smile. "It was quite fun though. The rain I mean." You smiled. "Quite the adventure." You agreed. Bruce's smile grew to show his teeth. "You should smile more often." You said to him. He put his hand under you chin. "You as well." Just then, the door to your house opened up and your nana ran down. "Ms. Y/N! You're soaked!" You smiled. "It's not that bad Nana." You said as she draped a blanket around your shoulders. Then she caught sight of Bruce. "Your even more soaked then Y/N here! I'll go grab you a towel!" Your nana rushed off back inside.
"Care to do this again?" Bruce asked after a moment. You smiled. "I would like that." Bruce bowed and kissed your hand. "Then until next time..." He said as he got into his car. You gave a small wave. "Until next time." You repeated as the engine to the limo started back up and drove off into the stormy night.
A/N: Hope you enjoyed this chapter! Looking at my homework level, I won't be able to do that much writing but I'll try my best. You never know! I've finalized plan for the rest of the story thought so that should make things easier. Stay cool!
