Eddie P.O.V
As everyone evacuated the lunch room, I looked around for Aleks. I had wanted to show him where the band room was, and get my clarinet! Ah, I was so excited to see what instrument he plays! I wanted to keep it a surprise for myself.
But he wasn't behind me. A bit confused, I stood up on my toes, to look around the cluster of people, just in case he got separated. But all I could see were James, Jordan and Seamus.
I started to get a bit worried, even though there was no reason to. What if he got lost? Well, he couldn't really go that far, but still...
I quickly dumped my food into the nearest trash bin and quick-walked out of the cafeteria. But I only needed to turn a corner to get a surprise I would've rather not gotten.
Someone was holding Aleks up by his shirt, punching him in the ribs. Aleks' neck was covered in blood, and there was crimson dotting his lips. His eyes were closed, but I could tell one was starting to bruise. It also looked like he was crying. Softly, though. With nothing but tears falling from his cheek. His arms were hanging limply at his side, unable to do anything. But the strange thing was that he wasn't even flinching. He just... Let it happen. Like it happened plenty of times before.
I was stunned, I didn't know what to do. Just stand there, and watch as the person I just started to develop feelings for get beaten by someone I barely even knew.
But I wouldn't let that happen.
The adrenaline in my body started pumping. My hands curled up into fists. Tears started forming and my breathing got faster. The next thing I knew I was running towards the kid that was beating up the love of my life, screaming. He looked up seconds before I hit him in the jaw. He fell to the ground, letting go of a startled Aleks. I ignored Aleks completely, and got on top of his attacker. It took me a second to realize it was a kid named Adam. But it didn't matter. It was just someone that beat up my newfound best friend.
I started to punch Adam repeatedly. I didn't even know where this fight in me came from.
"YOU SON OF A BITCH!" I screamed as I pulled his shirt so his head was lifted up inches in front of my face. He flinched as I screamed profanities in his face. "YOU HURT MY BEST FUCKING FRIEND!" I started shaking him, and just as I was about to give a giant blow to his nose, I felt a hand on my shoulder, with all the person's weight on me.
I turned around. It was Aleks. He was struggling to stand. His eyebrows were raised, his bloody lips in a frown. "Eddie, please," Aleks pleaded, "I just... Want to get to our next period... People are staring, and I don't like attention." I looked around, and he was right. There were quite a lot of people staring, including Kevin. But I didn't care. The tears in my eyes started falling, and I laughed. Forgetting about Adam, I lifted myself up and hugged Aleks, burying my face into his neck, tears staining his skin. "You dummy," I laughed through muffled sobs, "we're going to go home and get you cleaned up." I picked Aleks up I'm my arms, shifting to make him more comfortable. He leaned his head onto my chest, and I saw a faint pink hue on his face.
As we tried to push through the now yelling crowd, with people scurrying over to help Adam up, Kevin emerged beside us.
"Do you need help?" He asked, obvious concern in his tone. But I knew he wasn't worried about me.
"Nah, we're fine," Aleks answered for me.
"D-do you need me to tell the front desk that you're leaving?"
"If you want."
"That's not an answer do you or-"
"Fine! Whatever. I don't care."
