A Small Town Story

Chapter 3

 

“Thanks mom. I will text you when the movie is over with.” I said to my mother before I shut the car door.

School was finally over with which means that it is time for the movies. I walked inside the small theater and quickly spotted my friends.

“Hey everyone.” I greeted them.

The responded back with various greetings and then we decided what movie we were going to watch. We ended up choosing ‘Bad Grandpa’ even though Zoe wanted to watch some movie called ‘Free Birds’. I swear she is a child sometimes.

We all walked over to theater number four and walked in. Well, that was everyone but me and Zoe since she grabbed my arm to stop me.

I look over at her in confusion but she just signaled me to come with her. I shrugged my shoulders and followed her. Next thing I known we were crouched down behind this potted plant.

“Zoe, what the heck are we doing crouched behind this plant. People are starting to stare at us.” I whisper yelled.

She didn't say anything do to the fact that she was staring at something off in the distance. I followed her gaze with my eyes and when I saw what well who she was staring at it all made since.

Matt and his attractive friend.

As boy crazy as Zoe is, she really does like this Matt guy. He is a senior and well, we are just sophomores.

He barely knows Zoe exists. The only reason he barely does is because I introduced them since Matt happens to be in one of my classes.

My goal is to get them together though. Yes, I am going to play cupid.

“Taylor! Look they are coming over here. Don't make eye contact! Act cool!” Zoe said in a panic.

How the heck we were supposed to act “cool” while crouching behind a plant I don't know. I looked at Zoe as if she was crazy.

As Matt grew closer the more Zoe panicked. Then next thing I know I was being shoved and then I landed face first on the ground not to mention I most likely looked like a starfish.

“Umm, Taylor?” I looked up from the ground and saw Matt and his attractive friend, Aaron, staring down at me.

I felt my cheeks heat up. “Um, hey Matt. Hey Aaron.” I watched as Aaron gave me a confused look and then I realized that he had no clue who I was. Oops.

“So, what are you doing exactly?” Matt questioned me motioning at my position on the ground.

I jumped up and opened my mouth to hopefully save myself from even more embarrassment but then Zoe walk over.

“There you are! I have been looking for you. Oh hey.” She said acting as if she just noticed Matt and Aaron standing there.

I gave Zoe the biggest glare I could muster before turning back to the guys.

“You are Zoe right?” Matt asked Zoe.

I think Zoe might have just die of happiness in the inside due to the fact that he just remembered her name.

“Uh, yeah-h that is my name, Zoe.” She stuttered out as she wore a huge cheesy grin. I smiled and laughed just a bit on the inside.

“Well, we had better go. The movie is about to start. See ya tomorrow, Taylor and it was nice seeing you again, Zoe.” Matt said to us before walking off.

The moment that Matt and Aaron were out of hearing range Zoe I hit her on the arm. Zoe rubbed her arm and glared at me.

“What was that for?” She yelled.

“Hmm, I don't know maybe for pushing me out from behind the bush and making me embarrass myself. Again!” I explained to her even though it was blatantly obvious.

“Whatever are you talking about? You clearly just fell.” She said faking innocents. I let out a small laugh. I couldn't stay mad at her even if I tried.

Then all of a sudden Zoe squealed. I jumped at the sudden loud sound and looked at her.

“He remembered my name!” She said to me in pure joy. She was gaining weird looks from a lot of people as she danced around the theater. She could care less though.

We then went to go catch up with the rest of our friends. We did end up missing a good part of the movie.

Everyone was wondering where we had been but I think they knew that it had something to do will Zoe and one of her plans. We didn't tell them what happened because it was kinda like our own joke.

*Then next day*

 

Finally fourth period, the last one of the day. I was like a walking zombie due to the fact I was up until three in the morning talking to Zoe who still couldn't get over the fact that Matt remembered her name.

Its a good thing she was my best friend.

I walked around the corner of the hall and ran into a wall and fell back with a thud. Wait just a second. There wasn't a wall around that corner.

I look up and saw none other than Aaron.

With my mouth agape I jumped up quickly. I shuttered out a quick sorry before I walked past him. I didn't get too far before Aaron’s voice stopped me in my tracks.

“You’re Taylor right?” He questioned me.

I think I know now how Zoe felt last night. Just a bit. I looked over at Aaron and nodded my head slowly since I didn't want to risk saying something stupid.

“So, do you always like to pretend to be a starfish or…?” When he said that I was confused for a moment and then I realized what he meant.

I could feel my cheeks turn even more red when I realized it. The two times he had seen me I had been sprawled out on the floor like a starfish.

“Um, no not always. I swear I am normal and not weird at all. Ok so maybe I am not normal but then again who is normal anymore. Starfish are cool though do you think so? I meant they just sit there chillin and not giving a crap. I mean wouldn't you-” My rambling as cut off my the loud bell ringing overhead.

Then I realized I was late to class. Again.

“Awe crap! I have to go! Uh, nice to see you again!” Then I took off running down the hallway.

I am pretty sure Aaron now thinks I am one strange girl.
