A Small Town Story

Chapter 8

Recap:

I smiled back and then glanced around the small parlor. I froze mid lick of my ice cream when I saw something that I shouldn't have.

Kelsey and Aaron kissing.

I ended up dropping my ice cream and my mouth fell open in utter shock.

No way.

“Taylor, what are you staring at.” Tyler asked.

Then he turned and looked.

“What the..? Is that!?” Tyler exclaimed before turning back to me.

I bunch of emotions hit me at the same time. Anger, hurt, sadness, surprise, disbelief, but mostly anger. See Aaron kissing Kelsey made me realize something very important.

I was played.

I am just glad that I caught him before things went any farther. Also there was no way in hell that I was letting them get away with this.

“Get up. We are doing something about this.” I growled. I got up and grabbed my ice cream cone and proceeded to walk over to their table. They didn't even notice me until I spoke.

“Hey Aaron.” I spoke in sickly sweet tone. He looked up and before he could realize what was going on, I shoved my ice cream straight into his face.

“What the-” Aaron started to say until he was cut off.

Kelsey let out what seemed to be a scream and then jumped up. “Taylor! What the heck is your problem!?” She screeched out in her stupid annoying voice. I was fuming right now.

“Hmm, well I don't known. Maybe you should ask Aaron right here what he was doing last night. Actually I will answer for him, he was kissing me and hang out with me! Then I come here to see you guy basically sucking each others faces off, I am pretty mad right now.” I fumed.

A look of disgust crossed Kelsey’s face then she turned to an angry Aaron who was wiping ice cream from his face.”Why were you kissing her last night? We are supposed to be dating, which means you can't be making out with sluts like her! Why would you even scoop so low anyways?”

Well then.

I opened my mouth to speak back, but someone beat me to it. “Really now because last time I checked, which was this morning, we were dating. So tell me Kelsey, how long have you been cheating on me?”

I turned and saw a very angry looking Tyler. I looked back at Kelsey and saw that the color had drained from her face and she was staring wide eyed at Tyler.

“I-I umm you s-see w-” Kelsey started to say but Tyler cut her off.

“We are over Kelsey.” He spat out.

Disbelieve clouded her face and her jaw dropped. “What! No! Wait you known what fine! I bet you were cheating on me with this slut anyways.” She said before sticking her nose up in the air.

“No unlike you I don't cheat on people. But you known what? Taylor here is ten times the person you will ever be. We have liked each other anyways so guess what? Screw you Kelsey.” Tyler hissed out before he did something I never ever ever thought he would do.

He grabbed my waist and kissed me square in the mouth. I froze for a split second before I registered what was happening and kissed him back.

I heard and scream of frustration and the stomping away of a pair of heels. Wow was all I was thinking as we broke apart. I looked over and saw that Kelsey was shoving Aaron into her car before getting in a speeding away.

I smiled a small smile before turning back to Tyler. He hadn't moved a muscle and he seemed to be thinking about something intently.

“Tyler..?” I asked which seemed to break his trance.

He shook his head and spoke, “Come on lets go.” He muttered before walking out of the ice cream parlor and to his truck.

As we drove away I couldn't help the smile that had grown on my face. As bad as I was treated and as bad as things have gone, maybe just maybe things are finally going to turn out good.

I did want an answer to why he kissed me. I mean I know that it was to prove some point to Kelsey, but he didn't have to do that. I want to know why though.

“So..” I said trying to break the awkward silence that was growing between us. I am guessing that Tyler didn't want to talk because he turned out the radio.

Ok maybe we can talk when we get back.

That didn't happen though.

We had got back to my house just as the cleaning crew was finishing up their job. Then after they left Tyler got in his truck and left and didn't come back until right before our moms came back.

“Sissy sissy look at my new lego set!” My brother Gavin exclaimed when he busted through the front door.

I smiled at him and bent down to his level, “Cool buddy! Maybe later we can build it together!” That seemed to be the right answer because my brother then jumped up and ran off with Calli to play leaving my mother, Martha, Tyler, and me alone.

After walking around and “inspecting” the house my mother spoke up. “I have to say that I am very impressed by the cleaning job you guys did. Good job guys. You guys will remember this punishment next time, won't you?”

Tyler and I both nodded our heads along agreeing with my mother. I felt bad for lying and disobeying my mom again, but if Tyler wouldn't have convinced me to go out today I wouldn't have found out about Aaron playing me or Tyler wouldn't have kissed me.

Speaking of which, I still need to ask him about that.

I waited to Martha and my mother where in the kitchen talking before I grabbed Tyler and pulled him off to the side.

“Hey Tyler, I was meaning to ask you about that uhh kiss earlier. Don’t get me wrong I enj-” Again I was cut off.

“It meant nothing. I was just trying to make Kelsey mad and get her to leave.” He said with a blank face and eyes that showed no emotion.

Any hope I had was crushed right then and there. I took a step back and bit my lip hoping that my face showed no emotion.

“Oh yeah that’s what I thought. So umm yeah cool. Well I am going to go take a shower, see you later.”

After saying that and walking upstairs and after I was behind the door of the bathroom, that is when I left the single tear roll down my face.

I sat in self pity for about five minutes before I got up and wiped the tears roughly away.

‘No’ I said to myself. ‘No, I am not going to let him affect me again. I am stronger than that.’

I looked in the mirror at the girl with tangled blond hair and dull brown eyes that were puffy and red from the tears previously shed. I stared at her and she started right back at me. I watched as her lips moved and a voice was heard.

‘I am stronger than that.’
