I walked through the sunny field happily, breathing in the warm summer air. Nothing was better when I came out here, just to sit on the peace and quiet. Mom and Dad were at work, school was out. It was absolutely great. My heart felt happy.
I ran to the town, excited to see everyone. Mr. Bannister advertising samples of treats for the Bannister Bakery, Mrs. Kollin running the same old flower shop, Ms. Helda in the library, it was all the same as every other day. I watched at the town fountain as the clouds slowly passed. They looked so fluffy, like a pillow.
I heard my name being called in the distance. My mother..
I sighed, getting up and walking towards her. She was as happy looking as ever. She didn't even look her age. She looked so much younger than she actually was. Her dark brown, elbow-length hair, her glowing skin, the natural rosiness in her cheeks, her bright blue eyes, her freckles. Why didn't I look like her? Why couldn't I?
I smiled at her. "Could you deliver these to Mrs. Widdleton? I'm afraid she's gotten sick." She smiled warmly back at me, holding me a basket. I nodded slightly, taking it off of her hands. She was so generous. "I will." I stated, holding the basket it one arm. Mom rubbed my arm and kissed my cheek. "Thank you, be home soon alright?" She started to walk off. "Yes ma'am.." I mumbled and started to walk, thinking about the differences between my mother and I, unless those differences were my imagination.
I walked up to Mrs. Widdleton's door and knocked softly, but not too soft. Mrs. Widdleton didn't open the door immediately, like she normally did. But a couple minutes after. I smiled sweetly and held up the basket. "Hello Mrs. Widdleton, Mom asked me to deliver this to you today, I'm very sorry that you've gotten sick." I said, sympathetically. She smiled weakly and opened the door slowly and I stepped inside. Mrs. Widdleton was 85 years old. She was always the perkiest of us all, for her to get sick, it's just awful.
I put the basket on the table and looked at her. "I hope you get better, I don't know what it would be like without your perky self running around town!" I chuckled. The older woman chuckled. "I promise you I'll get better sweetie. Tell your mother thank you." She promise. I nodded. "Well I'll leave you then. Bye!" I waved, and so did she. I closed the door behind me lightly and skipped home.
So yea, this is basically my every day life. I had no care in the world. No cares. Nothing was holding me back from anything. I had it all.
- 3 Weeks Later -
Crash!
I jerked up. A window just broke. I could hear Dad getting out of bed quickly. I suddenly felt my heart sink. A break in. I looked around and stumbled out of bed. Suddenly, a bang came from downstairs, following a thud. I held my breath as I heard footsteps coming up the steps. Not my fathers. I immediately opened the window and jumped out, hurting my legs and skidding my elbows
Then I remembered.
My mother is still there.
I tried to climb back in and then I heard a scream and another bang. I gasped, ducking out of sight. I felt tears well up in my eyes and I ran. I ran and ran and nothing stopped me. I ran all the way to Mrs. Widdleton's house. The window was broken there too...no.
I raced inside. Mrs. Widdleton was lying on the floor, blood spilling from her head. I was frozen. This whole town. It was being robbed, if not, it was under attack. I ran out of her house and towards the entrance of the town. I couldn't stop running, I wouldn't stop running. I have to get somewhere safe.
Once I reach the entrance I skid in the dirt, my knees and palms scratching. I look back at my home, gasping for breath. Why did this have to happen? Why to us...
