She stared at him.

He felt so familiar,

but she didn't know who he was.

He turned at looked at her,

"I'm sorry, I think I got the wrong room.", he said, nor looking at her. "I think I should go."

As he was closing the door, he looked at her right in the eyes and said with such sincerity,

"I understand".

She felt happiness for the first time in many days.

He understood her.

He understood what she was going through.

He acknowledged her.

He talked to her,

like she was a person.

He knew the feelings, the pain,

he knew the feeling.

And that meant so much to her.

He gave her hope.

He gave her happiness.

When he had said he understood, he gave her life.

She smiled at the memory.

The first time she had smiled in weeks.

Her name was Tess,

and she had hope.
