Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: The Keepers of Time

Chapter 4

The path winded through the forest and the woods. Jet kicked up some dust, giggling, which sent it to Vine's nose, making him sneeze.

Rose sighed, then felt something strange. She shuddered.

"What's wrong?" Jet asked her.

"I-I feel something faint, that's all... It feels..."

"Ah!" Jet exclaimed excitedly, "Rose, you're finally feeling an aura! I knew it would happen sooner or later! Yeah!"

"An Aura," Rose perked up, she could remember something about an aura in her past, but... when? "I see. It's faint though. I bet it just happened last night. Lots of Pokémon could have been walking down this trail, though, so I wouldn't be surprised much."

"True," Vine said.

"So, guys, what do you think we'll find at Fogbound Lake?" Chatot flew over to them.

"Well, I suspect there might be a waterfall, and some fog, and... the guardian of the lake," Vine shrugged.

"Well, one thing you didn't list, there is actually a Time Gear in said waterfall," Chatot explained, "Though we must not speak about it. It might spread to Pokémon who want that Time Gear for themselves."

"Like," Vine gasped dramatically, "The Thief?"

"Probably," Chatot shrugged his wings aswell, "you never know."

Rose smiled, and dashed forward, and tripped on a rock. She fell forward, and groaned, "Owch."

"Are you alright?" Jet asked.

"Yes, I'm okay," Rose said, and brushed herself off. But what Jet said about the whole Aura thing interested her. She wanted to use this to her advantage.

...

As Jet and Rose rested, Chatot poked his head through the tent, "We need you to investigate something."

"Yes?" Jet jumped to his feet.

"You need to go to Fogbound Lake, and see how the guardian is doing," Chatot explained, "That's all."

"We'll do it," Rose said, nodding.

...

As the three stumbled out of the Fogbound Woods and to the area that led into the lake, they heard rumbling. Rose looked up, and her heart about stopped.

"Is that..."

"G-Groudon," Jet choked.

"I AM GROUDON, THE GUARDIAN OF FOGBOUND LAKE," Groudon roared.

"Oh dear, we have to fight him?!" Rose shrieked.

"IF YOU WANT TO PASS," Groudon growled.

"I'm determined, let's do this!" Vine said.

The other two nodded.

...

"Wait, guys!' Rose called, "Groudon... I think it's a hologram!"

"So, you've finally caught onto my trick," A echoing voice sounded.

Another Pokémon flew into view.

"Who are you?" Rose stepped up to the Pokémon.

"I am Uxie! Guardian of Fogbound Lake!" She danced around in the air.

"We defeated your Groudon," Vine turned to the hologram, "Can we pass now?"

"I'm afraid not," Uxie shook her head.

"How can we, then?" Rose demanded.

"You can pass, if you insist, but, I have to wipe your memory at the very end," Uxie said.

"Wait, I can't remember anything, did you wipe my memory?" Rose asked, wary.

"No, silly, I only wipe memories of Fogbound Lake, not your entire memory," Uxie giggled. Rose nodded, and blushed, "Nevermind, then. Chatot from Wigglytuff's Guild sent us here. We promise not to tell! We'll keep the secret!" ROse put her hand to her chest, "I promise."

"Wigglytuff is a good Pokémon," Uxie said softly, "He would never break a promise. Alright, you can go in, and I won't wipe your memories. Only if you keep to your promise."

The three followed Uxie to a wide cliff area, overlooking a beautiful fountain. Little bug pokemon swirled around it.

"It's so pretty!" Vine said, in wonder.

"Did you know, that at the center of that fountain, is the Time Gear?" Uxie asked them.

"I can see it!" Rose said, as she caught sight of the glimmering Time Gear, and gasped in wonder, "So that's what a Time Gear looks like..."

"Someone hasn't seen a Time Gear before," Uxie floated down to her.

"I mean, I have amnesia, so I might have, but, it's so beautiful!" Rose said. She then thought of something, "Uxie, I want to feel your aura."

"Go ahead," She giggled.

Rose closed her eyes, and concentrated. Instantly, a sense of serenity washed over her. She blinked, "That's so cool!"

"I know right?" Jet said, "I'm glad you're a Riolu!"

"We should go," Vine said, "We were supposed to come to Fogbound Lake for a little while, and when we came back, I think the guild was supposed to come back to Treasure Town. I'm so happy we came, though!"

"Yeah," Rose said, "I got to see... a Time Gear!"

"We'll keep your promise, Uxie, don't you worry!" Jet said.

"Alright, see you next time!" Uxie waved, as the Pokémon walked away, in thought.

...

Much later...

He stared at the Uxie while she was mumbling.

"I should have wiped their minds when I had the chance..."

He tilted his head slightly.

Uxie looked up at him, eyes wide with horror.

"I don't know what you're talking about. I didn't come here because somebody told me there was a Time Gear here, in the fountain. Really, I knew about this place all along. Not to mention the feeling of it being there kind of gives it away."

Uxie looked him over. Maybe to find what kind of Pokémon he was.

"Then again," He stepped forward, stepping more into the lighter area, "The fountain is pretty. I must go, now." He turned, and sprinted away.

Uxie mumbled, "I must tell them. I know who their Thief is."
