CHAPTER 3
Joining the Ninja Academy was not an easy task. The fact that Bree had no identification or a home village raised a few eyebrows. A Shinobi ID card had to be made up, with Konoha as her home village. After that she needed to take a number of IQ tests along with a physical. Bree was sure she had failed the test, considering most of the questions were things she had never learned. Combat tactics? Code breaking? You don't learn that kind of stuff at public school, and Bree thought that she would never need to know. Now it seemed as if all the subjects that had been stressed on back home were useless. Finding the area of a cylinder wouldn't help her here.
Nevertheless, she managed to squeeze herself in.
"So what does this mean? Do I get a team? Am I on my own?" she asked the woman giving her all the tests. The lady shrugged, and handed Bree a pink slip of paper. "You'll have to ask the Hokage about that. I'm just here to make sure you're registered. I'm assuming you'll be by yourself for a little while, at least until we have two genin compatible with you. Since you're so new, it may be harder. We're not entirely sure of your talents yet. But as your training begins that should change."
It had been a little less than a week since her registration into the academy. Since Bree had zero experience, she had to start at the lower classes with the younger kids. After a day in there, she asked if there was any way to speed up the pace which she was learning.
"Like, are there any extra classes I can take? I can do more homework. Stay extra hours to study?" she said to the teacher, a familiar looking man but she couldn't pinpoint his name.
The man scratched his chin. "I could assign you some field work. Raw experience will do you more good than staying in here studying the origin of a kunai knife. I'll check around and see if you can be temporarily put on a squad. You'll only be able to go on D missions though. Anything above will be too dangerous for you."
She gave a sigh of relief. "Thank you! I promise I won't let you down!"
She still hadn't been put on a squad or been on a mission, but she was sure it was going to be soon. Meanwhile, she had been given a tiny apartment to stay in. It was close to the academy, and the ramen stand was right across the street.
She had met mostly everyone now. Shikamaru, Choji, and Ino were really nice, although Bree worried that Shikamaru saw through the gaps in the amnesia story. Shino was pretty quiet, but pleasant. Sakura wasn't as annoying as Bree had anticipated her to be. She hadn't seen Hinata again and wondered if she had scared her off. Hopefully not, because Bree genuinely liked her.
Now all that was left was Neji, TenTen, Rock Lee, and Kakashi.
The Sand Siblings were still in town, but it seemed like they were making a point of not being around whenever Bree was. Or maybe that was just her imagination.
On a Thursday, Bree, Sakura, and Naruto were sitting at a bench, talking about the other villages, when Sakura jumped up, her eyes wide. "Oh my gosh! I can't believe I forgot! What kind of person am I?!"
"What's the matter?" Bree and Naruto asked in unison. Sakura put a hand on her hip and stared in disbelief at them both. "Do you not know what tomorrow is?"
They both blinked at her.
Sakura sighed. "It's Sasuke's birthday! I was going to throw him a suprise party on Saturday and now I only have a day to plan!"
Naruto's nose crinkled. "If his birthday is tomorrow why is the party on Saturday?"
"Because it's called a suprise party not a predictable party," said Sakura, her eyes rolling.
