Epilogue

One year later

Jeff stands in kitchen, watching Juliet paint. Juliet is wearing one of her many paint splattered shirts. She sits in a wooden chair, focused on her easel. Winter sun streams through the window in the cottage. Jeff smiles, watching the sun make Juliet's hair glow. A radio plays the morning news, reporting the brutal murder of a gang of drug lords. Juliet's lips tug at the corners. Jeff opens the refrigerator, pulling out a can of soda, and leaves Juliet to her painting.

Over the past year, Juliet had drifted away from her human mother, then moved out. The couple had bought the small cottage in the woods, a thirty minute drive from the city. They both knew Jeff would always kill. When Jeff was with Juliet, the desire to kill was very faint, but old habits are impossible to break. Juliet turned her head away when Jeff killed, provided it was relatively bad people.

Smile Dog lived with them, always sleeping at the foot of their bed. Smile Dog was a good pet, and Jeff never mentioned the dog's nightly strolls in the parks and woods. Sally often came to visit, unexpectedly and at bad timing of course. Juliet and Jeff didn't have a perfect relationship. They argued, and disagreed on several aspects of life, but they always compromised or ignored the matter.

Jeff sat on the sofa in the living room, and patted Smile Dog's head as he sat on the floor. The fireplace crackled with flames, keeping away the cold winter air. Juliet's paintings of zombies are hung all over the cottage, along with pictures of their friends. Jeff chuckled to himself, remembering the ski trip they took last month. He relaxed in the couch for some time, and thought about nothing in particular.

A knock came to the door, Smile Dog barked. Jeff opened the door, and stared at Jack, Sally, and Ben. They laughed softly at Jeff's confused face.

"It's your birthday, Idiot" Sally reminds him with a giggle. Jeff frowns, noticing the parcels his friends are holding. He lights a cigarette, taking a long drag off it. "You smoke too much" Ben says, coughing. Juliet appears at Jeff's side, smiling.

"Come on in guys" she says with a smile. The trio settles in the living room, and Jeff drags Juliet into the bedroom down the hall.

"I told you I didn't want a party" Jeff says with annoyance. He takes another drag, and sits on the bed. Juliet sighs.

"Oh come on Jeff, you threw me a birthday party, so this is my revenge" Juliet says with a smirk. She leans toward Jeff, kissing his cheek and snatching the cigarette from him. "So have fun while I get your present ready" she adds. Juliet shoves Jeff out if the room. Jeff chuckles and heads back to the living room, joining his friends.

"So, how is the birthday boy?" Ben asks Jeff. Jack laughs aloud, and sits on the couch by Jeff.

"Ready to kill you" Jeff retorts.

"Not before you open your presents" Sally objects with a giggle.

As the group talks for a while, Jeff wonders what's keeping Juliet, but he doesn't want to accidentally see his present and spoil Juliet's fun. Sally asks Jeff how old he is, but Jeff just laughs at her. Jack makes fun of Jeff, insisting Jeff is too old to remember. The others chuckle, all being younger than Jeff. Ben expresses his relief that Jeff isn't such a heavy drinker any more. That annoys Jeff, who hadn't had a drink since meeting Juliet.

Speaking of which, Juliet appears in the room, receiving a gasp from Jeff. Her hair is in a long, curly, black braid, dotted with lavender flowers. She is wearing a strapless lavender colored dress, with a light, wide skirt that swishes when she walks. Jeff catches a whiff of lavender perfume radiating from Juliet, and sighs contently. Juliet is holding a frosted cake and a cardboard box. She sits both on the coffee table and joins Jeff on the couch. Sheffield studies her face, noting the light make she is wearing, that make her long black lashes look even longer. She kisses his cheek, encouraging him to open his presents.

The group laughs. Jeff opens Ben's gift first, a new silver knife. Jack's gift is pack of fine cigars. Sally's gift is white hoodie, with the words, Go To Sleep, embroidered on the back in black letters. He moves to Juliet's gift, a plain cardboard box taped shut. Using the knew knife, he cuts the tape open, and stares at the grift. The painting stares up at him, hypnotizing him.

The painting is a sideways view of Jeff and her. They are facing each other, smiling softly. Their foreheads are touching, hands entwined. Juliet is wearing the lavender dress she is wearing as she stands sits beside him, and Jeff is wearing his white hoodie. His eyes are locked on hers in the painting. The background is crowd of people, all the CreepyPasta monsters. The detail of the painting is extraordinary, and it yanks at Jeff's crude heart strings.

Jeff tears his eyes away from the canvas, and turns to Juliet. He cups her face in one hand. Jeff kisses her on the face there in front of his friends, something he never does. The kiss is as powerful as their first kiss. Juliet giggles as they pull away. The others clear their throats and cough.

"Can we eat that cake now?" Sally asks.

"Sure thing" Juliet says. She uses Jeff's new knife to cut the cake, and serves the slices of cake to the others. They all joke and tease each other. Jeff smiles to himself, deciding he won't go out to kill tonight. He'd prefer to spend his night with his beloved.
