The Lies: Short Story

Eight

Our break ends in a flash of an eye. Everyone found out about what happened and having been saying if I ever need anything for me to just ask, but I knew they just felt sorry for me. No one knew about Nelson or Xavier which was great for their own safety. Natalie tried talking to me again but I told her I didn't need to her pity. All I needed was Xavier and Nelson and I knew they were there for me.

"Alright children, who wants to watch a movie and have snacks?"

Everyone starts cheering and I raise my hand and Nelson rolls his eyes.

"Miss Govern."

"Is nap time allowed?"

He rolls his eyes again and points to the door, "if you're going to be annoying get out."

"Nothing's changed." Someone comments

Nelson and I smile, "we agree." Nelson starts giving out small bags of chips and everyone grabs a donut and cookie. He puts on the movie and in between the movie there's a knock on the door.

"Miss Govern, we need you to come with us to the main entrance."

"Is there a problem?" Nelson asks the security guards and all they said is they need me.

I get up and walk out with the security guards and everyone gets up and follows. They take me to the front of the school and all I see is a massive amount of students.

"Make room!" One security guard yells and there's enough room for us to walk through. When I look I just see Xavier in the middle of all the students.

"Oh no."

"Andrea De LaCruz Govern Ruis, I made you a promise a few weeks ago but I feel that wasn't enough. I know we're young and a lot happened this year but I know that together we can get through everything and anything." He slowly kneels on one knee, "Andrea, will you marry me?"

I hear a lot of 'aws' coming from the students and I just stand there a bit confused.

"So what big secret is going to come out after this?"

"No more secrets, I promise."

My eyes start watering and I shake my head, "This is a lot.."

"I know baby, but I promise I'll help you through all of it and be there for you. Please."

I look over at Nelson and he shakes his head, "Can you stop teasing the poor boy?"

I laugh, "Of course Xavier, yes, yes I will marry you."

He places the ring on my finger and picks me up, everyone clapping and cheering. He lets me down slowly and leans down to kiss me a little bit after we hear Nelson.

"Alright, alright, that's enough save it for the wedding!!"

Everyone laughs especially Xavier and I because although I wanted time to myself having them there with and for me made everything better.

After that day it felt like everything was slowly, yet somehow rapidly, coming to an end. There was a lot of testing but after that there was also spring break.

"What do you want to do?"

"Wait, you're actually asking me what I want to do instead of dragging me somewhere??"

"You have a minute before I drag your ass to somewhere." Nelson says annoyed

"Sassy, alright, so of course I want to meet my- our family but before that I want to meet a different family."

"What do you mean?"

"Yours." I look over at Xavier, "Yes your parents are here and I finally got to meet them but your siblings are still in Keystone and I'm sure you have more family... I want to meet them before I grow the courage to go back and learn about my family."
