"Mankind," Head Personal, Lillian, starts. She's conducting the final briefing before they send us into the Dome. The Dome is were the Testing takes place. Naturally, since the earth's atmosphere was completely destroyed in the Annihilation they needed to test in a controlled environment. They recreate the unpredictable circumstances of the real world to test if we are fit to inhabit. But as Mira told me apparently it's not just that. I just have to blend in and act like the good little Echo I'm meant to be. Lillian continues her speech. "A fallen race who by their hands brought an end to the world we once knew. We must own up to our responsibilities and rehabilitate the world to were there is no sickness, hunger, war. Everybody will live in peace." All the Echoes cheered so I just did what they did. I didn't really want to though. What's so exciting about hearing her give the same speech she's given several times before? Someone else has to have noticed. "But we have found the solution. You are the solution. The door to a better world starts with you." I watch as the other Echoes around me eat up everything she says. Why are they all so stoic and weird all of the sudden? "This test will challenge all sectors of your 3 parted codes. The 3 parts being, physical, mental, and emotional. If your codes are all in tact then you should pass with no trouble at all. However, if you fail you will be considered faulty and pulled from the system. I'm sure you will all do just fine. So go and rebuild the world." Everyone clapped except me. I didn't want to clap so I didn't. I just hope she didn't notice. She always puts on this facade of professionality and kindness but I've seen her other side. When I mess up she's always there to yell at me or tell me what a pathetic excuse of an Echo I am. She makes me sad so I never listen to her. She doesn't deserve a round of applause.
We all make our way to these ports that have our Asset Number on them. Sometimes I hate being labeled like property. I hate how they treat us like we aren't even human. I mean we're not but we used to be, what's so different now? We got reprogrammed and now all of the sudden we're not human? I wonder what my past self would have thought about this?
A girl I don't recognize steps out wearing a very professional looking white pencil skirt with a white blouse. "Alright the Testing lasts three days you will have all the resources you could need. In case you are a Glitch and need medical attention you will be extracted and taken care of understand?" We all nod our heads in unison. "There is to be no injuring, maiming or harming of any sort. Even though that's impossible we want to keep you safe." We all nod in agreement. "Okay Echoes," the doors open. "Good luck."
