CHAPTER 1
*SLAM*
I jumped nearly a foot out of my seat and glanced around the room wildly.
"Ready to return to the present, Ms. Jackson?" From above I heard one of my least favorite voices in the world. I looked up to see none other than my history teacher Mr. Crain. He was a short balding old man who had beady brown eyes and more often than not had a scowl on his face.
“Yes," I mumbled quietly looking down. My face flushed bright red and I could hear the giggling of a few of my classmates.
That was the third time I’ve fallen asleep in Mr. Crain's class this week. It’s not my fault. Really, I just usually stay up all night reading anyways. I am a total book freak. I love the feel of getting lost in a book and just being able to become someone else and live a life that I know I will never get to experience. Apparent my bad sleeping habits are worse than I thought.
Mr. Crain walked back up to the front of the room and continued his lecture on whatever history thing we are working on this week. Already I could feel my mind start to drift. I hate school with a burning passion. I feel like everything I need to know I have already learned and I have absolutely no reason to learn about physics or government of any of that other crap.
The bell rang and I quickly jumped out of my seat and rushed out the door, I needed to get away from Mr. Crain before he could remember to give me my detention.
As soon as I tuned the corner I breathed out a sigh of relief and slumped against the wall. Lately I just have been totally out of it. I try to stay focused, I really do but it just isn’t worth it.
I felt before heard someone come up beside me. "BOO!" I jumped again and nearly fell over too. "Ha-ha I really got you that time" I looked up and saw none other than Nick, pretty much the only person I hang out with and one of my best friends. He has buzzed black hair and brown eyes that other girls seemed to love, high cheekbones and a smile that can light up a room, I don't get why he chooses to hang out with me when he can have just about any girl he wants. The entire female population wants to be with him too.
"Holy-" I paused and took a breath "What was that for?" I asked exasperated.
"Because it’s hilarious!" he laughed again and I turned and started walking the other way. "Oh common don't be like that" he started chasing after me. I ignored him and continued walking to my fourth period, art. "Evie..." he grabbed my backpack and pulled me to a stop.
"What?" I asked getting annoyed now. He looked at me funny and then said "You know I was just kidding right?"
"Yeah" I sighed "sorry I’m just not in a good mood today. I don't think I got enough sleep."
"Reading again?" he asked with a smile just as the warning bell rang telling us to get to class.
"Maybe... What’s it to you?" I asked laughing. Nick always put me in a good mood.
"It’s everything to me," he said with a straight face and then turned and walked off to class. What was that all about? I shook it off and hurried to get to my favorite class of the day.
