Chapter 4~ A Discovery

 CHAPTER 4

~*Jayden*~

When Nikki finally woke up I was still running. She had been sleeping for a very long time and we were only about a day away from the palace on foot. The forest was beginning to thin. She moaned without opening her eyes and I couldn't help but look down at the curvy body lying in my arms.

I looked back up and smiled to myself, no one should be allowed to be so beautiful. My eyes return to her face and I saw that her eyes were open. "Like what you see?" she asked with a glare and a rather uncomfortable look on her face. “And put me down this is ridiculous!”

I completely ignored the second thing she said and subconsciously tightened my grip. "Yes in fact, I do. It’s not like it’s new to you though, you probably have all sorts of admirers." as I finished talking she was already shaking her head.

"People usually avoid me completely." She said in a small voice. She refused to meet my eyes and just glanced off into the trees.

I was stunned. How could others not notice her beauty? She sighed and looked the other way staring out into the forest. I waited hoping she would say more.

"Nikki, are you ok?" I asked, becoming worried about her silence.

"Why do you keep calling me that?" she asked, "you don't really think I’m Nikki do you?"

Now I was really shocked, not Nikki? How many people have purple eyes and live at that address? I skidded to a stop, "What?" She looked up at me sadly.

"You kept calling me that ever since we got here and I meant to correct you before but with the wolf..." she hesitated and then continued, "I don't know what you want with my sister but I am most definitely not her."

"Where is Nikki then? And who are you?" I was a little taken aback from her little speech and I was a little sad to hear that this girl was in fact not the person we so desperately need to win the war. Not only that but now I have to go back and find the real Nikki.

"Probably off at some party humping a total stranger," she scoffed, "and honestly if you want anything to do with her then you must be more superficial than I thought." she added looking me straight in the eyes. "Will you put me down now?"

I did not put her down because honestly I didn't want to have to stop touching her, "you never answered my second question, which was, if you aren’t Nikki, then who are you really?"

She sighed before answering, "I’m Evie, the no-body of a twin that gets to stand in Nikki's shadow." in that moment she looked so sad; I couldn’t help but feel bad for her. If what she said was true and she really was just stuck in her sisters shadow, than she probably has to deal with more shit than any of the rest of us.

"You are not a no-body," I almost growled, "how can you even think that! You are the most beautiful person I have ever met." I looked at her straight in those mesmerizing purple eyes and I could see the surprise in her face. She opened her mouth to argue but I didn’t' want to hear it.

I leaned down and I kissed her.

He kissed me. Like actual lip-to-lip contact with this beautiful random stranger. I was totally caught off guard and when his lips touched mine I just sat in his arms, frozen.

He set me down on my feet, finally, and kissed me harder. I was so confused and startled that I didn’t know what to do. It’s not like I’ve never kissed a boy before, but I have definitely never kissed a boy that is this attractive. Jayden tilted my head back and flicked out his tongue, trying to get me to open my mouth. This snapped me back into reality and I quickly shoved his body back away from mine.

Somewhere off in the distance a horn sounded, and I turned away, my cheeks flushing with the reality of what just happened. He felt bad for me. It was a pity kiss. I had just been going on about how my life sucks and he wanted to make me feel better.

Embarrassment was the most prominent emotion right now and I took a few steps back trying to clear my head. Why had I let him kiss me? I don’t even know this guy but he thinks its ok to take advantage of my emotional state in the middle of the forest.

Maybe this was why he wanted Nikki. She would probably be ok with getting raped in the woods by a guy who was completely delusional. He hasn’t even told me why I was kidnapped. What if he really was just crazy and wanted to get in my pants? That had to be that reason. This guy just has some serious mental problems.

I looked back at him and his face showed only concern. That was just too much to handle, now he felt bad about it? I whipped around and darted out of the clearing, hoping to get a decent head start before he chased after me.

"Evie!" At least he got my name right, but I didn't listen and I ran a hard as I could, weaving in between the trees as if I grew up doing it. My body seemed to take on a mind of its own as I ran away from everything. Suddenly my body started to change.

I was still running but my arms grew out and became covered in a dusting of beautiful blue feathers. My nose and mouth grew out and became a sharp pointed beak. I could feel my body shrinking, condensing into a smaller form. Once it was done I was still moving forward just as quickly but I was no longer running.

I was flying.
