The Invasion (Part 2 of the KaiSoo Fanfic Series)

Chapter 3

Jongin rolls over in the bed, groaning tiredly with eyes that are still heavy with sleepiness. The whole night brought nothing but wonderful sleep to him and even though the beds may not be as luxurious or as comfortable as the ones back in The Dome, they're better than sleeping on the sand. And they're definitely better than laying in a bed inside of a place that doesn't make you feel safe. 

A loud yawn escapes his mouth as he lays on his back, reaching his arms out to stretch them and then bringing them back down to rub his eyes open. He looks to his right to see that Kyungsoo and baby aren't there, but it's not so much of a surprise anymore since she does have a habit of being the first one to wake up. Then, he looks to his left, observing how the morning sunlight radiates through the slightly open curtains. 

He lays there for a few moments more before getting up to go find Kyungsoo and baby. Before he officially does that, though, he makes a quick stop to check on the others, seeing that most of them are rightfully still passed out in bed. It makes him happy seeing this because he knows how much stress and turmoil they must have felt following him as he aimlessly led them through the desert for six months. And more than anything, they deserve every minute they spend inside their dreams. 

Jongin ends up wandering around the building for a while in search of Kyungsoo and the handful of others that are awake. But he also uses this time to check out the rest of the building aside from the little they saw yesterday. He thinks that it really is a nice place, nothing that can be compared to The Dome, of course, but nice for a place in the middle of the desert that isn't even fully functional yet. And it certainly gives him a better feeling than being in The Dome did. 

As he's wandering around, he crosses paths with Krystal, who gives him a corner smile as she greets him. "Get lost or something?" he says to him, causing Jongin to let out a little chuckle as he shakes his head.

"No, I was just looking for Kyungsoo and got distracted," he says, earning a little nod from her. "This place really is great," he adds, looking away from her and moving his eyes around him. "It's so much better than The Dome."

"Well, I don't know about the so much part yet, but I suppose we'll reach that point someday," she says as she exhales and removes her hands from her hips. Nodding, Jongin smiles and hums. "The others went to the dining hall just a little while ago," she says, changing the subject quickly. "Come on, I'll take you. I'm sure you can't remember where it is after all that sleep you got last night."

"Yeah, that's probably what did it," he replies, both of them chuckling as he follows behind Krystal closely but not too closely. It only takes a couple of minutes for them to arrive at the dining hall and a smile automatically appears on Jongin's face when he sees Kyungsoo with baby sitting on his lap. He increases the pace of his own feet in order to get over to them faster, sliding into the seat next to the elder and kissing his temple as he wraps an arm around his waist. 

"Oh, there you are," Kyungsoo says with a pleasantly surprised smile on his face. "I was wondering if I should wake you up, but you looked so peaceful that I didn't want to."

"It's a good thing you didn't then," Jongin replies, "because I am not a morning person." Kyungsoo laughs at this a little and lays his head on the younger's shoulder for a moment, allowing him to give him a hug despite the awkward angle. Baby ends up moving onto the spot right in between Kyungsoo and Jongin not too long after Kyungsoo offers Jongin the remainder of his breakfast, smiling and kissing him again because now he can without worrying about getting in trouble.

From a distance, Krystal snickers at the scene, leaning against the wall and crossing her arms over her chest. "What are you pouting about?" Taemin asks as he appears at her side, making her jump slightly at the abruptness. He looks in the direction she is and finds the two males laughing at the little girl in between them, exhaling and narrowing his eyes for a split second.
