The Invasion (Part 2 of the KaiSoo Fanfic Series)

Chapter 22

A/N - Just a quick note before the chapter starts, I have no knowledge in electricity or power, all I know how to do is freak when my wifi isn't working until it gets fixed. So, with that in mind, please don't judge me if none of the technical details make no sense whatsoever. I literally made it up because it sounded reasonable considering the circumstances I put them in. So yeah, without further interruption, please enjoy the final chapter!

The next day, despite the previous day's exciting and overwhelming ending, is to be anything but relaxing and unfortunately for Jongin, he only realizes this as he rolls over on his back and sees the sun peeking through the curtains, acting as a sort of alarm for him. He turns his head away from the window and sees Kyungsoo laying beside him, still fast asleep and curled into his side. A smile spreads across his lips as a result. He never realized just how much he missed mornings like this, waking up next to the person he cherishes most in the world until now. And if being stranded out among the fatality that is the Sterile Desert taught him anything, it's that no morning will ever be complete without Kyungsoo.

Despite how much he longs to just lay in bed and continue to hold the elder in his arms, Jongin knows he has to get up so that he can discuss the colony's next steps with Onew and the others. So, being as quiet as he can of course, he rises from bed and puts on the fresh clothes he received yesterday. He doesn't forget to kiss Kyungsoo, Asher, Ahyoung's heads before he takes off, also leaving a little note behind in the off chance that Kyungsoo might start to panic.

He first meets Chanyeol in the dining area, everyone looking rightfully worn out and exhausted. Once they eat a small breakfast, they all walk over to Onew's office, where they find Key, Minho, and Jonghyun already sitting around the table with the leader.

"Good morning," Onew greets them with a kind but sleepy smile. "I hope you guys got at least a few hours of sleep last night."

"I don't even remember anything that happened after I hit the bed," Chanyeol comments, earning a laugh from the others. "What were you guys talking about before?"

"How we're going to assign the newcomers to groups," Onew replies. "They're the second largest group we've had come, so we're gonna need some help if you guys are up for it."

"Definitely." Jongin nods. "We certainly didn't wake up this early for the fun of it." Onew chuckles in response and then begins to assign each of them to a small group of refugees to look after while he stays in the office and works on I.D. cards for them. They all leave the office once they have the names of the people and agree to meet back there to discuss after they are done.

It takes a few minutes to round of all of them up, but once they do, they call out names one by one and each male takes their small group to another part of the colony so that no one gets mixed up. Jongin ends up with the group that has his brother and Hanjae in it, which may or may not have been a coincidence on Onew's part. There's only a few of them with the two boys included, at least not as many as Mino, Key, and Jonghyun have because this is Jongin's first time assigning groups on his own. So, he just takes a breath and introduces himself before starting to ask for assignments. He got the bulk of the younger people that weren't old enough to receive assignments, leaving him to improvise and stick them wherever he sees fit. He lets Hanjae and Asher pick their groups, though, both Asher and Hanjae choosing the exhibitionists.

He explains each group's duties to the group and then starts taking them on tours of Kohara. "We weren't anticipating having so many of you, so there's limited lodging space," he explains as he walks, trying to speaking semi-formally, "but the workers are already working on constructing more rooms for everyone." He takes them over to the washing area next and gives them instructions on how long their showers can be, how to go about washing clothes, and anything else they may need to know about how to use the water efficiently. The next stop is the dining hall, where Jongin talks about the eating order and dining rules. Lastly, they stop at the caregivers' station, saying a few last words before asking Seungkwan and Minki to help clean them up a little.
