That Night
Annabeth POV
I couldn't sleep. Sleeping without Percy was like bathing in the River Cocytus while watching everyone you know die, and then making it out alive and trying to live with the pain. What made it even worse was that the one who I still loved the most I had to hate. It was 2 a.m before I fell into a fitful sleep.
Percy POV
At about 3 a.m I heard a bloodcurdling scream coming from the Athena cabin. Annabeth. I'd been awake all night for fear of the nightmares. I quickly put on a shirt before I remembered that she hated me. I went anyway, because no matter how much she hated me, I still loved her and would do anything to make it up to her.
After putting on some clothes I ran to the Athena cabin and picked up the screaming Annabeth. I carried her to my cabin. As soon as I touched her, her screams became sobs. I laid her on my bed, hoping she would go back to sleep, but she woke immediately. "Percy..." she sobbed.
"Annabeth, I'm sorry. I'll take you back to your cabin, but-"
Her broken eyes bore into me. "Percy. What I saw in there. Your death. My death. I watched everyone we know die. I don't know if I'll ever be the same."
"I'm so sorry. I'm sorry for everything. I can't even begin to say how sorry I am." I begged.
"Why did you doubt me?" Annabeth asked sadly.
"There's no excuse for what I did. I honestly had some doubts. I doubted you, and now I'm regretting it 10 times over. Please forgive me." I said.
"Percy, I don't know if I can. Unless I bathe in the River Lethe, which I doubt you'd want me to do. I'm sorry, I just can't." And on that dramatic note, she left the room.
I pulled out Riptide.
