My feet are tired! Cassidy exclaims in her head loud enough to where everyone could hear her. Because we were in wolf form, the only way we could communicate is through each others thoughts, or as it is properly known: catasty.
Catasty is a technique that us wolves use to communicate with each other in our minds. Even if you don't want to hear what your pack mates have to say.
Can we please take a fucking break? My paws are fixing to fall off! Felix growls. I lash my tail in annoyance, glancing at Jack. Even he was tired! None of my pack members weren't even tired, and yet here's Jack's pack members complaining and groaning.
Mark? I hear Alika ask quietly. Can we please take a break? I mutter something unintelligent to myself before looking at the sky.
The first set of stars were starting to break through the evening's dying light. I glance at Jack who stares back at me with hard, expressionless green eyes. If we travelled all the way through, we would make it before midnight. Or at least to the city limits. However if we stop for the night, we wouldn't hit city limits until about three in the afternoon.
Fine, I mutter, giving in to the DarkMoon's whining and complaining. We'll stop for the night.
While the DarkMoon pack lets out happy yelps, I could hear Eden and Dan growl in disapproval. Do I blame them? Of course not. We were use to travelling straight through. Maybe stopping for the night wasn't such a bad idea.
=======
We were silent as we sat at the table in some small diner. Jack sat across from me studying his hands, while Alika and Eden chatted quietly about what they thought looked good on the menu.
A small blonde waitress struts over, smiling.
"Hello, my name is Vix and I'll be your waitress for tonight, can I get you anything to drink?"
"Can I just get water?" Jack says quietly. The waitress nods, looking at me, smiling. "And what can I get you, cutie?"
"Um..." I glance back at the menu, trying to ignore Jack's hands clenching as she called me a cutie. "How bout a water as well?"
"Sure thing, sweetheart," she winks, gathering up everyone else's drink orders. I watch Jack glare daggers at the back of the waitress's head as she walks away.
"Jack," I sigh. "What's wrong?" He just looks at me and shakes his head.
"No," Alika pipes up. "Something is wrong, so spill."
"I...," Jack sighs, running a hand through his already messy green hair. "She was flirting with you, ya know?" I roll my eyes.
"So? A lot of females flirt with me."
"No, but she was like flirting flirting."
"Okay?" I said, raising an eyebrow. "So what if she was?"
"It's disgusting!" He suddenly blurts out. His blue eyes widen while I narrow my brown eyes.
"Your point?" I growl. Can't he just be happy for me? Someone was flirting with me for once! And he just sits there all agitated. But no, because of his stupid alpha instincts, his all upset that she wasn't flirting with him instead.
"She's human." Was all he said, looking down at his hands again. A sad look crosses his blue eyes. My face softens a little as I touch his wrist gently.
"Hey, no need to be sad though... Cheer up!" Jack stares at my hand resting gently on top of his wrist and slowly starts to turn red. I smile a little, withdrawing my hand as the waitress comes back.
"Alright," she says in that annoyingly cheerful voice of hers. She passes out everyone's drinks and grabs her little notebook. "Now what can I get y'all to eat?"
"About freaking time!" Cassidy exclaims. "Now I would like the bacon cheeseburger..." She takes down everyone's order and looks at me.
"And what can I get you to eat, red bean." Red bean for my red hair? I roll my eyes.
"I would like a house salad," Jack frowns looking at me.
"That's it?" He asks as she walks away.
"Yeah, why?"
"That's not like you to just get a salad, Mark," Eden says, breaking away from Alika's and Cassidy's conversation. "Don't you want something else to eat as well?"
"No, I'm not really hungry," I lied, glancing down at the table. If only I could tell them what Lady Celeste told me... I only have four more days before my destiny starts to take its toll. And there was nothing I can do about it.
