I was sitting on Crepuscule's back, still in tears. It was my saddest birthday because my own father threw me out of his house.

The wind was blowing and it was cold. I had only my gown, cape and I wore ballerina shoes. In the small village, I asked an elderly lady:

"Excuse-moi, madame? Where is Paris?"

She showed me the direction and I thanked her.

It was early in the morning when I came to Paris.

I opened the heavy door of Populaire and entered. There was really nice. A lot of chandeliers were lighting the hall and I tried to find Madame Giry's office.

"Excuse moi,Monsieur. Where's Madame Giry's office? I asked the doorman politely.
He answered.

"Upstairs..." I thanked him and ran upstairs. I knocked at the office and Mme. Giry opened.

"Bonjour, Madame! Je suis Cateline De Blanc. I want to become a ballerina..." I presented myself.

"Oh, Mademoiselle De Blanc! Come in." she said. I entered. "Sit down..." Mme. Giry ordered me and I obeyed.

"You said you want to become a ballerina, Mademoiselle De Blanc, don't you?" she asked.

"Oui, Madame." I answered. "But I haven't got any expieriences with professional ballet. I just danced ballet when I was little..."

"Maybe you can sing well... I guess." she asked.

"But I have another strange secret. I hope it won't be a problem..." I told her and took my cloak off. She saw my wings and gasped.

"Sure it won't be! Wings mustn't stop a good singer."

"Well..." I started. "...I don't want to sing. I don't sing well. But I promise that I will practice my dance every day, three times a day."

"May you sing for us at the practice today? We need a soprano..." she proposed.

"Uhm... I am really not sure!"

"Great! So, see you at 3 p.m. By the way... you can stay in the room 37..." Mme. Giry added. ..........................................................

I didn't have any suitcase or luggage, because I ran away. I sang a that my grandma sang for me when I was little. She was my best friend and then I met Eitenne. He was my best friend since grandma died, but a few years ago he left out town. He wanted to become a lawyer, so he went to Paris.

I looked around the room. It wasn't so cold but it was dark and frightening. I found a long dress blue dress in the closet and a note sticking in it. The note said:

"Cateline, you can wear this dress on your audition."

I had to audition for Mme. Giry and the opera mangers. So they could see if I was good or not. I put on the dress that Mme. Giry had given me and went to practice.

It was my turn to sing, and everyone was watching me. "Do I really have to sing now?" I asked Mme. Giry. "I'm frightened."

"Do it!" She said strictly. I nodded and started to sing. I sang my grandmas favorite song that she wrote and I think I did it quite good. Mme. Giry started even to cry!

"Do you know Amelie De Blanc, my dear?" She asked when I was finished.

"She was my grandma." Madame Giry gasped, she whispered something in the ears of the opera mangers. They seem to discuss something. They looked up at me and Mme. Giry said.

"Greet our new singer, Mademoiselle Catelines De Blanc! She will be our leading lady in our new opera in two weeks"

Everyone came to congratulate me and a blond girl came up to me. "You were really good! Your voice was so clear and you are a perfect singer! I'm a ballerina and my name is Meg Giry and I'm Mme. Giry daughter." Suddenly a voice interrupt our conversation.

"Mademoiselle De Blanc did indeed sang well, didn't she!?"

"It's him!" Meg whispered. "The Phantom of the Opera!" I looked at her confused.

"He's real?" I remember grandmas story about him. I started to get frightened. The ghost spoke again bitterly.

"All singers must sing like that, and not like that dive Carlotta!"

"Go away, Opera ghost!" One of the manager told him, that I have learned was called Monsieur Firmin. "Your are not welcomed here."

"I am not welcomed in my own opera house?"

"The opera is not yours, it's public!" Shouted the other manager, Monsieur Andre. What the opera ghost spoke got shivers down my spine.

"You are going to pay for your words, Monsieur! I control everything and everyone in this opera house, even you Mademoiselle Cateline" after that everything went quiet. Meg spoke softly to me.

"Let's get you out of here" I nodded and Mme. Giry spoke up.

"That might be a good idea, see you in my office tomorrow at 1 pm." I nodded again and walked to Meg's room with Meg.

"The phantom had returned after all this time!" Meg spoke frightenly, I looked at her.

"Are we in danger? What does that mean?"

"You have to be careful." Meg bewared me. "You can sleep here with me tonight if you want."

"Yes, thank you."

"Do you want to have the couch or bed?"

"It doesn't matter, I can take the couch." Meg nodded and suddenly it looked like she remember something.

"I have to go to practice now!" Meg told me. "Are you going to me ok? If you'll need anything, just ask my mother. Okay?"

I smiled "Okay, and I'll be fine. Thanks again Meg"

She smiled and with that left me alone in the room.
