A/N: So, I realized that my other stories weren't getting as much feedback as I'd liked, so I started this. I've been wanting to for awhile. (: Hope you like it 'cuz its a Harry Potter Fanfic! (: I know that its not a great beginning but hey, stories can progress!

Disclaimer: I do not own the magical world of Harry Potter. I only own Mercury, her mother, and the plot line, I guess. Everything else goes to J.K. Rowling. :)

Chapter One: Before the Beginning.

My fingers strummed on the kitchen table. A sweet smell wafted through the air, meaning that one of my mother’s candles was burning. Rich piano melodies started and stopped as I stared at the deep maroon colored wall.

The beautiful piano music stopped almost instantly. A crash a second later came from my mother’s study where she was playing. Yelling was heard and I knew enough not to go and see what was happening, for someone had broken into the house. I just knew it. Over the yelling, there was a piercing scream that lasted about a minute. Mother.  Mother had always told me that if someone forcibly came into our home, stay out of their way; make yourself unnoticeable, no matter what happened. Silently as I could, I went to the wall that I was previously starting intensely at, and tapped a certain spot. Slowly but surely, the wall opened up into a small crawlspace, just big enough for me to fit in. By the time the wall had closed up again, my mother’s screaming had been cut off, and I heard a lady screeching my name.

“Mercury! Mercury! I know you’re here, Mercury!” It sounded horrible, like it would break my eardrums if there wasn’t a wall to separate us; definitely reminded me of nails scraping against a chalkboard.

“Oh c’mon, Bella! She’s obviously not here. Let’s go before one of these Muggles notices the damage.”

There was a loud crack, and I assumed that the people had left. I waited a few moment s before opening the wall again and crawling out. I looked around and noticed that no one else was here. I sprinted to my mother’s study to find it in ruins, my mother along with it. One wall was caved in, where the explosion was. My mind reeled. I couldn’t stay here, could I? The police might suspect me, and the creepy lady and guy could come back any second to finish me off. No, I’m right. I have to leave.

I ran up to my room, and hurriedly packed a bag. Just the essentials: shorts, two t-shirts, ect. Later on, I would figure out how this decision would change the outcome of things. If I’d just stayed there and called the police like a normal person, I might of not gotten into this mess. But me being me, I didn’t do the latter.
