Chapter 11 superantes (Survivors) superste (Survivor)
We gulped down our potions. Instantly, I felt myself morphing into something else. I shrunk down and looked around. I noticed three other animals beside me. One was an otter. The next was a raven, and the third a fox.
This is weird, I heard Hermione think.
Hermione? I asked.
Yeah, it’s me. You’re a lioness, by the way.
You’re an otter.
Hey guys, what am I? George thought.
A fox. Hermione replied.
We all turned to Fred. He was perched on the bookcase.
Why am I the bird? He groaned.
We all laughed in our minds and magically changed back into humans. Fred fell off of the bookcase.
“OH MY GOSH,” Hermione said.
“What?” we asked.
“Buckbeak’s execution is today!” she said, running out of the room. I followed quickly.
We sprinted across the grounds. I noticed that it was warmer, as if time had been sped up to return to fall. There was no more snow on the ground and the familiar chill had left.
Hermione and I arrived at Hagrid’s. We bust open the door without knocking. Inside were Harry and Ron with a sobbing Hagrid.
“What are you doing here?” Harry asked scathingly.
I rolled my eyes.
“Shh!” Hermione yelled. “Dumbledore’s coming!”
So we snuck out the back way. With a load of sneaking, we’d finally managed to make our way around, back towards the castle. Though, we didn’t head all the way back. We stayed standing, overlooking Hagrid’s yard where we had a perfect view. Then Harry started to explain everything to us. Turns out, Ron’s rat- Scabbers- wasn’t eaten by Hermione’s cat. It had just run away. Ron had sheepishly apologized, and was now holding onto Scabbers for dear life.
“Ouch!” Ron exclaimed. “He bit me!” There was a red line running down his finger. Scabbers jumped out of his hands and began to scurry away, Ron chasing after him.
“Ron! Ron!” Hermione yelled.
Suddenly, I screamed. A huge, hulking black dog started running straight at Ron. Now all three of us, Harry, Hermione and I, were yelling for our friend. The dog snatched Ron’s leg in his teeth, and began dragging him towards the Whomping Willow. The dog dodged the flailing branches and entered the tunnel at the base of the trunk.
“What the heck just happened?” I asked.
“It was the Grim,” Harry said, totally convinced.
I rolled my eyes and almost in sync, Hermione and I transformed into our Animagus forms. Harry looked at us in disbelief, and if I wasn’t in animal form, I would have smirked.
Hermione and I jumped and ducked skillfully under and over the flying branches. Like some kind of instinct, I went up and pressed the knot in the bark of the trunk. The branches stopped whipping around, and I gestured to Harry with my tail to go into the tunnel. Hermione followed him, and I did her.
Hermione had already transformed back into her human shape, but I stayed the same. Someone had to fight that huge dog if magic didn’t work. I followed them through the dirt tunnel, turning occasionally. Finally, the tunnel let up, and I immediately knew where we were. The Shrieking Shack.
