Chapter 2
No sooner than I stepped outside onto the porch of the house that I lived in, a peculiar man walked up to me. He had long white hair that went down to his knees and a beard to match. I could see twinkling blue eyes behind half-moon spectacles that sat atop a crooked nose. What really got my mind reeling was that he was wearing a long cloak over a sort of robe. It’s the middle of summer.
“Mercury Welds?” he asked in a hoarse voice that radiated power and demanded respect.
“Uh… Yes?” I asked in return.
“Good, good. I am an old friend of your mother’s. My name is Albus Dumbledore, and I have come to offer you something. I also offer my condolences on what happened prior to my visit.”
“Um, thanks,” I replied.
He nodded and gestured for me to follow him, which I obliged.
“Mercury, it’s about time you learn a bit about your past. First of all, you are a witch, and a pretty good one if I do say so myself,” he started.
“A witch?” I said doubtfully.
He smiled slightly and took out a long, round-pointed stick. A jet stream of water erupted from the tip when he swished it. I stared, gaping.
“Yes, a witch. Now I have an offer for you.” He handed me an envelope made of thick, yellowed parchment paper. The seal was a sort of crest, with photos of a roaring lion on a maroon background, a hissing snake on an emerald background, a soaring raven on a liquid blue background, and a burrowing badger on a topaz all surrounding the letter H. I carefully tore it open and read the letter inside.

I stared in disbelief. Then I said, curious, “Why do I have three last names?”
“They were the ones that your mother went by,” the old man said. “Now I believe that you do not have a place to stay yet, so you will come along with me to Hogwarts, okay?”
I nodded.
“Take my arm.”
I did, and felt myself being whisked away from the ground.
A/N: Okay, not as good either, more of a filler chapter, I guess, but she has to get to Hogwarts somehow! Comment.Vote.Fan. -Jessica. :)
