            Allison’s Point of View

I was sitting on one of the many newly polished benches in the park nearby our house feeling awkwardly different that there’s nobody around unlike any other day here in Illinois. There are no children playing on the ground, or on the swings, or on the seesaws. There are no parents chasing their little kids. There are no balloon vendors. There are no ice cream cars. There was only me on my seat with my knapsack and my furry sweater. It was the twenty second day of December, three days before the Christmas day, the chosen day of my friends to have our night party. Luckily, my father agreed to this, for the first time in my life I was going to have a night out. The worst part is, even the bad asses in our school were invited. Even my brother Adam, yeah he’s another badass. Even Carline. Even Billy. Even Megan – an admirer of Chris who hates me because he likes me more than her. We are going to have this party on Martha’s house and they will surely have some beer of hard liquor as per usual parties. I don’t like drinking those kinds of drinks but this may be my first and last party so I’d rather treat myself and have some. Hmm, drinks.

Jaime told me that he’ll fetch me so we can talk on our way. It’s so hard to refuse. I didn’t see him on the past three weeks after the incident that neither of us regrets. Chris saw the whole kissing thing and he’s absolutely mad. For some reason, I don’t see it wrong. It only gets wrong on the part that Jaime has a girlfriend and it would look like a third party but the rest is fine.

In just a few minutes, I can see a guy approaching. His hair was spiky and a touch of bright blonde was painted on the centerfold of his fore hair. As he comes closer, I can recognize Jaime. Finally! What took him so long?

“Sorry for not being punctual. Martha and I talked about lots of stuffs on phone while I was driving my way here. She’s being so bold with her words. All I hear is ‘fuck’ so I just shut my phone. It took so long, though.” I haven’t asked anything yet, he’s so forthcoming.

“Okay.” I have nothing to say.

We walked to a silver convertible; I suppose it’s his car.

“Tada! This is my new car, from my folks. They say this would be my Christmas gift and they also gave me a thousand bucks. I’m not quite satisfied.” He smirks.

“Yeah. It’s weird that they gave you a car on a winter season.”

“I thought so, too.” He looks at me, “Hop in!” he motions me on the seat beside the driver and I got in. He walks around the car and steps inside. The car smells so new, like it was a gift from heaven.

He eases the car from the parking lot to the main road. Martha’s house is on the farther left part of the city about half an hour to an hour journey depending on the mood of the traffic. Her house is just like Chris’ and Jaime’s, it was never called a home since both of their parents work in New York, she learned to live by herself and her sibling. She likes to party every night that’s why her younger sister went to their aunt and permanently lived there. Now she’s left with an older sister and a younger brother. She’s not a family oriented daughter and she blames her mother.

The traffic is surprisingly light for a winter afternoon.

“Martha and I, we split up.” He starts.

“What?” I spin my head to his direction in total surprise.

“You heard what I said, Martha and I split up.” He repeats.
