“Classes start at seven in the morning tomorrow so you better sleep early or be late on your first day this year, Allison. Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr can wait until you go home from school. Come on, honey.” Mom nags me for the billionth time tonight.

“Okay.” I mumble as I close the lid of the laptop Daddy Allan gave me last Christmas – a Mac. I feel like an over the top daughter of some rich son of the bitches. I peck my mom on her cheek and slowly crawl myself to my room and lazily slip on my bed. I let myself feel the softness and coldness of my new bed sheets until I ease into my sweet sleep.

Beep, beep, beep...

As much as I’d like to lie down my cold bed but I have boring classes to attend to. And I also remember that today is Candice’s birthday. I’m going to treat her later at Shakey’s because that is her favorite restaurant. Since our classes end at three in the afternoon, we can hang out for more than two hours.

I immediately made my way to the shower and bathed myself clean. I shrug on my RIOT! Paramore doodle shirt, my black skinny jeans and my ever beloved Converse. I pulled a sweater from the inside of my closet, wrapped it around me like a vine and trip my way downstairs just to see nobody around. I don’t mind, I think to myself and ran outside.

The weather is white – that is Jaime’s joke. Speaking of him, I can see him approaching. I rub my hands to create heat although it’s no use. It’s still freezing out here.

“Jay-me!”

“Oh, stop that. My name is not Jamie.” He grunts.

“Hot-headed at this time of the day? What’s been going on?”

“I had a fight with Chris.” He murmurs.

“Oh? And?” I demanded.

“As usual, I’m the bad guy and he’s the oh-so-poor-guy-in-the-situation. I’ve been doing everything to talk to him. I call him on his desk phone at home every morning, lunch and evening. I call his mobile every once in a while but he’s not answering. I try to visit him but the door says “Be back later”. I wait for him to come home but he never shows up. All I wanted was to talk to him. He told me that I’m the worst guy in the planet and even if it hurts me, I still consider him as my friend but he’s mad. He always is.” Rat. A. Tat. Fucking Jaime Preciado.

“Wait, why is he mad?” I try to slip on his severely immediate speech.

“You.” He looks away.

“Me?”

“Yes, and I bet you know why.” He sighs, oh poor friend of mine.

I put my hands inside the pocket of my sweater and proceed on walking with him to school. In just a few minutes, we’re there. Silently walking across the halls, knowing that most of the people’s attention is on us. On me. Of course. But I don’t really mind, I’m used to being a topic.

“Oh, look! The princess!” Billy announces making the entire high school’s attention whip to my direction. “Ooops! Not really a princes. It’s more of a mistaken princess!”

God, I’m being made fun of.

“Yes! The little orphan! I wonder why her parents left her. Don’t they love her?” Carline laughs her way that people will be carried and laugh too.

Don’t they love her? Her voice repeats in my head, taunting me. Don’t they love me? My mother? I would never know because she already passed away. My father? Damn, do I even have one? He never really cared. Did he even search for me? Or even think of me?

“Stop it, bitch!” Jaime shouts from beside me. “You wouldn’t want a fight on the first day, would you?” he snaps his fingers like he’s about to use them.
