Chapter Four

Dan Howell:

I turned the key and opened the door. I moved into this flat when I graduated high school. I didn't want to live with my parents. Because of my terrible habits they told me something I could never forget. Every time I got into a fight with them, they would tell me, "We never wanted a kid like this!" I remember leaving the door and sitting in the street for a day. I just kept crying for one day straight.

I had to move out. My dreams would be to live in a better area, like Manchester. I dreamed of having better friends. Ones I could move in a flat with. But that would never happen. Face to face with reality, I am in an area filled with cigarettes on the floor and the filthy smell of cheap cologne. Sometimes you would hear men wildly shout, influenced with heavy drinking at night. It was the worst, I knew it was bad for me. I didn't want to be here any longer or else I would be like the ones who are druggies that just lean against the wall everyday, waiting for someone to have a deal with.

It made me sick and as I hear someone is knocking on the door, I immediately open it. Scarlett was panting, I didn't understand why though.
Her face, usually pale, was red and her black hair was a mess.

"Uhh.. Scarlett?" I say.
She looks at me as I see a tear roll down her cheek. I didn't know what to say. I was never open. I clenched my fist.
"Did someone beat you up?" I ask.
She doesn't respond.
"Scarlett?" I ask again,
Her head looks down. More tears drop on my ground.

"If you don't want to answer it's ok." I say. She nods and exits. I was upset about that. I look down at the tears on the floor. I don't understand what her problem was.
I decide to chase her down. I quietly shut the door and slowly walk to the exits. There I see Scarlett with her hood on and her head down.

As she gets outside, I quickly rush down the steps. The door to go outside has a window. I glance at the window hoping to see what is going on.
