Sky's POV
The dim light of the sun faintly shines through the dense clouds, threatening to release billions of raindrops at any moment. The blades of grass no longer have dew drizzled on top of them, and the trees are no longer are static, now swaying in a circular motion. A few heads turn as the gate creaks open, but just as swiftly resume their attention to their activity once I enter. The park isn't as full as previous days, and I scan it for any familiar faces. There are none. I kick the crispy brown leaves at my feet, sending them into a miniature tornado which soon dies down. Despite the decrease in temperature I'm still relieved to have some fresh air, even if it's at 1pm. I didn't go for a run this morning because I irresponsibly forgot to set my alarm. Who could blame me? I mean, after staying up until god-knows-what time to Skype Cat, and having to wake up at 6.30am to go for a run, I wasn't exactly going to have a lot of sleep. Fact.
"Awww, is Skylar Rose all alone?," a familiar voice behind me mocks. Frankie Bennett.
I close my eyes and take a deep breath as I turn around, reopening them to the unfortunate sight of her face she literally painted on. She shoves me against the tree trunk, the bark digging into my back. "Get lost, Frankie."
"Is that the best come-back you can think of?" she scoffs, as around her waist appear a pair of burly arms holding her tightly, belonging to David James. Wait, what?
"You always were the socially awkward one, weren't you?" she adds with a flick of her hair.
"Babe, don't be so harsh," David nuzzles his face into her neck, kissing it delicately. Eww.
"Are you two...umm...together?" I feel the bile rising in my throat.
"Mind your business, bitch," she sniggers. "But for the record, yeah, we are."
"I'll meet you in the car," David tells her, planting a kiss on her cheek. "See you at the party tonight Skylar," he winks before pacing down the concrete path.
"You? Going to a party? What. A. Joke."
"What do you want Frankie?" Turning my attention back to her, I attempt to respond with an equal amount of confidence as she does, but I miserably fail.
"Well I want a lot of things actually, I'm sure my dad will happily get them for me though. Unlike yours." she smirks.
Now that is too far. In one swift motion I raise my hand up and connect my fist with her jaw, causing her to stumble backwards a couple of steps. "You know nothing about my dad!" I yell, ignoring the stares we're gaining from several couples nearby.
"I know that he was shit," she strides towards me. "So congratulations, you both have something in common." Her right elbow collides with my cheek as her left fist drives into my stomach. All the breath is knocked out of me as I crumble to the ground. Her mouth comes to my ear as she whispers, "And one more thing, I always win."
I hear her heels tap against the concrete path, heading towards the iron gate through which I previously entered. I grip onto the tree trunk in a desperate attempt to haul myself up, but all of my energy has drained along with my breath. I steadily breathe in and out, trying to regain my former breathing pace. What is it that she has against me? Did I do something wrong? I'm honestly reconsidering about going to that party, even if it means breaking a promise with my friends. I don't feel like getting my butt beaten twice in one day.
"Sky!" Who the fuck is it now?
A familiar boy rushes towards me, squatting down to my left. His eyes hold concern as he studies my face and places his hand on my shoulder, "Sky, are you okay? I just saw Frankie-"
