The chilling air of the city of Dehradun, touched their skins as they first stepped out from the train in the crowded station where a number of activities were going on. Hearing the cheerful, frustrated, agonizing and even warning voices of a number of people the guy in his last of teen years on one side, became irritated.
He tousled his hairs through his fingers, and muttered under his breath, "Irrational fools".
"Why can't these people just shut up instead of yelling their lungs out?" He mused mentally totally annoyed with all the chorus voices that surrounded him. A deep hidden pain and trauma reflected his face while his body tensed up as he heard the running steps of people around him, afraid that he might get crushed.
"Udit, sorry son. Here is your stick". He heard his mother, Amrita's apology beside him as she handed him his walking stick and he almost snatched it from her.
"How many times have I told you to keep it on my side only, can't you understand one thing that I can't go on without it?" He chided losing his patience and immediately his father, Ansh Shenoy wrapped his arm around his wife's slumped shoulder before she could give into her tears.
"Don't get mad at your mother, it was me who kept it beside our luggage and while collecting it, it slipped under the seat. I am sorry". Ansh apologized making Udit sigh in frustration.
"Now can we please leave?" He asked pissed. His parents keenly observed his dishelved face, which had lost all its colour since six months and in place of their cheerful and fun loving son, there stood a defeated and pained teenager.
Praying for a miracle in their colourless lives, the trio made their way out, not sure of what the future holds for them. Life is one complicated road, which has so many routes but only one of them goes on the right path of our desired destination which we find only with time, isn't it so?
On the other hand, the girl who was as well in her last of teen, gave a serene smile as her curls flow in all the direction while she welcomed the touch of cold breeze with enthusiasm taking in the touch of the morning sun.
"Seems everyone is busy enjoying themselves even in the cold weather". She mumbled lowly with a small smile playing on her lips and wrapped her velvet scarf around her neck, covering herself properly.
"Karishma," she heard a worried voice calling from behind and immediately she bit her bottom lip knowing fully well that, another class of Being careful was on her way and after all, how it won't be, who can escape from the clutches of a mother now?
"How many times have I told you to not go out in the crowd without me,?" She heard her mother Archana speaking beside her in a chiding tone. Being a single mother was never an easy job but when kids are like Karishma who were strong yet willful then every mother would feel at the top of the world. Isn't it so?
"Sorry. You were collecting our luggage so I thought I will just make your work easy". She replied in her ever melodious and enthusiastic tone looking straight.
Archana scrutinized her daughter with teary eyes. Stroking her hairs lovingly indicating that she was with her in every step, she turned her to face her, as she looked at her soulful face which only screamed happiness.
"Mom, are you crying again?" Karishma queried feeling unusual and then too cheer her up, she added, "Mommy, if you are worried that I might have fell down and hurt myself then no need you know, because I have my best friend with me. My stick".
She showed her white long stick which she used to support herself and Archana knowing her well, answered, "Okay my mother, I won't worry. Now let's go". She chuckled and holding her mother's hand, from one and her stick from the other, she made her way forwards to meet her destiny who was standing right infront of her but the only hidden irony was that, she was unaware of it and so was the recipient.
"You stand here, I will just call a cab". Archana said reaching a corner in the station and she nodded her head in agreement.
She was humming a song slowly, as she heard the sounds of bells coming from her right. Ecstatic at the thought of being close to a temple, she followed the sound and started taking slow steps towards her destination to only bump into it half way.
"What the hell? Are you blind? Can't you see that I don't have my eyes to see whether anyone is coming in the front or not?" Udit yelled with all his strength taking out his pent up frustration. He didn't wanted to be harsh at anyone but since the day, his life changed, he couldn't help but feel angry at every single thing.
He thought that the person infront of him would taunt or mock him for being so self conscious to voice out his own state to a mere stranger, but instead he heard a small chuckle which somehow soothed his heart and mind but ignoring that feeling, he let his anger over power him.
"Are you trying to mock me, Ms. Chuckle?" He asked making Karishma smile at the name he called her.
"No, no. Don't misunderstand me, Sir. It's just I am really blind so didn't saw that you were making your way from between". She cleared his confusion revealing her real self, shocking him to the core.
"What??" He asked with disbelief evident in his tone, while the girl infront of him only laughed a little and replied slowly, "I am sorry. I could have hurt you. My mom told me so many times to not go anywhere without her but I don't listen to her. I am really sorry".
"I will go. Take care". She said and slowly made her way away from him, creating a deep and everlasting impact on his heart and mind which he never felt before.
"Am I wrong to not accept myself??"
