Chapter 13
The amount of people I have been introduced to is totally unreal. Every corner I turn there’s another smiling face wanting to introduce themselves to me, lucky Riley, had stayed by my side the whole time, steering me away when needed.
I had excused myself from Riley as he spoke to an Alpha of one of the other packs. The clock had now turned to 8:37p.m, the kids were now being rounded up to put to bed. I joined Elizabeth, -a lady in her late thirties but really only looked to be in her early thirties. With her blonde ash hair and gray eyes, an aura of kindness radiated off of her- and a few other women of the pack who were taking the kids to sleep.
“Is there anything I can help with?” I questioned Elizabeth.
“Oh no Luna, were fine. It won’t take to long to round all these kids in, you can go enjoy the party.” She bowed her head while she spoke to me.
Patting a hand on her shoulder, “I can see your struggling with all the kids let me help you put them to bed. Plus it could give me something to do rather than talking with all these people.” She giggled at my words and swiftly nodded her head.
“If you can find Annie that would be great, that little girl loves the garden at anytime of day.” She spoke.
Nodding my head I turned on my heels and went in search for little Annie. All of the kids had been taken in already, all that was left to find was Annie, and I had searched the whole of the backyard admiring the beautiful atmosphere. I soon found myself at the very back of the garden where hardly any soul chose to walk. Knowing I should head back as the forest started from here and even a little child wouldn’t have gone in there all on their own. A strong pull tugged me towards the closing of the trees.
Following the pull, through the tree I carried on walking for a good five minutes till I felt the pull in my chest grow so strong that, I was soon panting as if it was constricting me from breathing. I fell to the ground unable to carry on walking anymore, my hands shook violently. An excruciating pain suddenly erupted deep inside me, setting the depths of me alight. An ear piercing sound left my lips, as I was unable to keep it at bay, the pain scorched my flesh as if I’m being sizzled on a barbecue.
Shutting my eyes tightly as tears filled them. The pain didn’t let up, wrapping me in a blanket, suffocating me. I had no control of my body let alone my powers. A huge gust of wind surrounded me, spinning in circles like a hurricane. In the far distance I could detect a fire had started like an Australian bush wildfire. Capturing everything in its quake, not letting a soul free to escape from its wrath it had created.
A lost soul stood in the midst of the fire slowly creeping up to the little girl as she stood frightened unable to move, “Run Annie Run, Get out of here!” I screamed, with the last bit of strength I let go of my mental walls and created a coat of resistance around her so she wouldn’t be harmed.
She ran, her little feet pushing her through the fire as it licked around her. Knowing she was now safe, I concentrated on my powers. I tired, I tried so hard to rein in the natural elements, but to no avail they carried on. I was too weak to control my powers; I’m utterly useless right now. The pressure of the wind had my hair flying everywhere, as my nails dug into the earth’s soil trying to keep my self grounded.
Thumping footsteps could be heard in the distance, coming closer to the destruction I have created. “Carter! Carter!” Riley screamed repeatedly, but his words were just a whisper in the wind. Thoughts surrounded me, interrogating my mind with questions.
In the mere distance figures could be seen, all stumbling to a stop as the fire had created a boarder between us.
Riley’s worried face stood in the centre of the throng of people, his eyes calculating everything in the clearing, the fire, the hurricane and me in the middle of it all thrown on the floor like a rag doll. We stared at each other, not knowing what to do; his eyes were swimming with fear, worry and anger but to what I don’t know.
A disturbance in the crowd of people had me turning my head painfully to the right. In a clean black tux, white dress shirt, black slacks and a grey bow tie. His hair combed back neatly, there stood Paul, looking freighted for his little girl.
“Pull it all in Carter, you can do it. Believe in yourself, you don’t want all these people to get hurt do you?” his words struck home paining me to even think of hat might happen to Paul, Riley and everyone else.
With that last thought, I stacked up my walls creating a barrier. Creating an imaginable lasso, I reined in my powers keeping them at bay. Soon the wind subsided and the fire was gone only leaving ash in its path. Feeling tired I let go, let go of everything, no too far on blackness took me as its criminal.
