Chapter 16
It seems like I haven’t been at work for quite a while, and as I stand here changing the oil in this Jeep Wrangler i realise how much I missed my parents, how my dad and I would stay out in the garage and mend cars for our neighbours, while mother got frustrated that she would never see us inside the house but out with our cars. Those are the times I miss.
“Hey Carter, after your done with that there’s a Honda that just came in that needs a full set of new tires that need to be fitted.” Craig called to me, a worker that I have become good friends with over the months I had worked here.
“Yeah, sure thing.” I hollered back. Slamming the hood, I made my way across the side of the garage where the Honda was pulling in. Two guys in the early-twenties emerged from the car, one having blonde locks, with gray eyes, and the other a soft chocolate brown, with matching eyes and hair.
I could tell the were both good looking but since I had met Riley, every guy just seems to look average to me, there is no real appeal to anyone else, I’m not too sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.
From what had happened earlier today with Riley I’m really not bothered in having a conversation wit someone, so instead of getting into formalities with the customer I went straight to work, getting the jack I position it under the car, lifting the right side off of the ground.
The sound of someone clearing their throat, I look up and see the blonde haired guy, waiting for my attention. Standing up straight, I wait for him to speak.
“So um, Carter,” He quickly looks at my name badge, “I was just saying to Jeremy over her how I have had a really bad day and it always makes me feel better to see a pretty girl smile. So, would you smile for me?” Ring the bell we have a winner.
Looking at him blankly, “I give you props for originality, I haven’t heard that pick up line before, so you get a few extra points, but love that’s all your gonna get.”
Cracking a smile, he holds out his hand for me to shake, “Alex, Alex Maynard. And that girl over there is Jeremy Kings.” Shaking his hand, and hi over to Jeremy.
“Well are you stranglers now in town, cause the tires you got there are for the winter, and there haven’t been much harsh weathers round here in a while.”
“No I live not too far from here actually just a mile north, but Alex here just got back from Oregon, for a few weeks, and the weather out there has been pretty bipolar the last few months.”
Throughout the time I was changing the tires, we had made small talk on what they did in Oregon, they had pretty vague answers about how they were in college down there and other stuff, but I knew there was something they were just not telling me, when I asked what they had majored in. At the end, we had exchanged numbers, promising to stay in touch.
Something didn’t sit well with me, as I lay contemplating on the front porch with Annie as she played with my hair. Something that Jeremy had mentioned, about how his tattoo of some sort had occurred. I knew they weren’t human, there is just something magical about them but nor are they Lycan’s, im pretty sure they’re healers.
It’s ironic really how one can be so out of touch with the rest of the world. How there could be a mass destruction in another realm and no one could know about it. Riley had always said how if werewolves, vampires and everything else ‘mythical’ hadn’t existed, I would have been a philosopher. He said it was the way I thought, how I could contemplate scenarios in so many different perspectives but never achieve an answer, but in the way I thought, I don’t necessarily need answers, just wise thoughts that lead onto another thought. Maybe it wouldn’t get me anywhere where in life, but at least I would be known for being wise and solemn.
“Luna?” I was interrupted by my thoughts by little Annie.
“Yes love?”
“When are you and Alpha Riley going to get married?” she questioned, he eyes wide with curiously.
“I don’t really know Annie; we haven’t known each other too long to be rushing into marriage now. What got you thinking about that?”
“Mama told me that you and Alpha Riley were true mates so I was just wondering why you haven’t gotten married yet, you are going to be together forever aren’t you?” she looked worried, as if Riley and I were going to part ways and I would never see her again.
“Well I hope we are together forever, but even for Lycan like us, forever is a long time. Maybe soon we will get married and you could be our flower girl.”
