Mark

Candace hadn't spoken to Mark since yesterday, and this worried him. What if his BFF, who was like a big brother to Mark, hated him? He shuddered at the thought. Looking around Maria's room, Mark realised that during the brief sleepover at Candace's, Maria had stolen back her makeup. So that's why he couldn't find it yesterday...that was mean. He wasn't even done with the glittery eyeshadow yet! Mark was upset. First no glitter and NOW THIS??? Life wasn't fair. Mark fumed as he barged into Maria's room and his eyes instantly snapped to her vanity table were all her makeup was usually piled up- not today. The makeup was nowhere to be seen and the desk was now littered with various hamster foods and chopped up vegetables. Why would Maria start using her hamster's food as makeup? The girl herself was collapsed beside the mess, desperately shoving pureed orange goo into her hamster's slack mouth. The furball let the mush trickle bit by bit down his throat before gurgling it back out, along with some icky greenish-brown slime. Every time the little beady-eyed hammy regurgitated its hammy-food, Maria would choke up a bit, blinking rapidly.

Mark had never seen Maria like this before, not even when she was in pre-k and Tigii stole her stickers. Not even when they were still back in grade 3 and Cece ripped her crepe-paper fairy wings that she made herself. Who knew a hamster would have such power over her?

Maria

She watched as her cocosquashcauli-blend dribbled out of Ethan's petite mouth. It killed her knowing that her very own real live Ethan was in her hands yet he was slowly dying despite all her love. (She doesn't know this, but her 'Ethan' was really a compassionless heartless monster who didn't care for love, whose worst enemy was love, whose bain of existance was love. So naturally, Maria's icky gooey emotions were destroying him.) She had never felt such heartwrenching pain in her life, not even when Kaitlynne stole her boyfriend in grade 8, not even when Kyle ripped her delicate crepe-paper heart that she made all by herself on Valentine's Day. The only time she'd felt something almost as bad as this was when her boyfriend Ian dumped her because he thought she was cheating on him. She kept accidently calling him Ethan, but for good reasons. Ian was the most Ethan-like boyfriend she'd ever had, and the closest thing to her dream-boy that she could find (This was before she got her hammy) She needed Ian to get through the day because he wasn't an object of her imagination. He was the only thing that made her think her Ethan was real, that he wasn't just an unobtainable dream. Then she caught him cheating on her minutes prior to their break-up, with Kordaine**, no less! She would bring Ethan to the vet, but who knew what metal things the doctor would poke him with, the poisons that Ethan would be injected with, and worst of all, the cage Ethan would be kept in overnight. There was no way she was going to let Ethan out of her sight during his time of need. There was no way Ethan would run away under her watch. There was no way Ethan would leave her... and she was going to do anything she could to keep him from succumbing to the power of her prophetic dreams...because if she could make Ethan come to life, what else could her powers do? What if Ethan really wasn't meant to stay with her....what if he really was meant to leave? Holding Ethan loosely in her limp hands, she leaned back and fell asleep.

Darkness fell, and her heart quailed. Ethan was not facing her, and he seemed to be unaware of her presence. She could not see his expression. Hammy-Ethan, coming from nowhere, scuttled through the grass and stopped beside Ethan. To Maria's tear-laden eyes, the two images blurred and seemed to merge.

Mark

Mark watched Maria fall back into the soft pillows of Dreamland. "Heeh" Mark visualized giant pillows of sparkleh spider-webby material, Maria falling into them.

*Sniff*

What was that? Mark thought, startled out of his imaginary pillow vision.

*Sniff*

Maria? He thought.

*Sniff*

Okay...so it is Maria...

Mark looked over at his weeping sister and his heart instantly melted. A tear rolled down her makeupless cheek and landed on her cloud-white pillow. He watched it spread through the threads of the fabric and make a grey spot, contrasting against the white. As the salty water faded against the soft cloth, Mark could practically feel his sister's pain seeping into him. It was like how he felt at the Sephora place, when the devil lady told him that there was no more Luxurious-Luscious-Lustrous-Blush-Pink-Cotton-Candy-With-Extra-Glitter lipgloss, except not as painful. But very close. How could he let his sister just lie there, facing that sort of pain? Mark wondered what she was thinking of and if Dani told her about the new Sephora line of eyeshadow. Maybe she had a nightmare about them running out of EverShine Extreme Glitter powder. THEY HAD SO MUCH IN COMMON!

**Kordaine: her mother's ex-BFF's daughter. Maria and Kordaine's mothers set up playdates with each other and 2 young brothers, trying to play matchmaker with the 8-year-olds. Maria and Kordaine didn't hit it off very well and Kordaine liked Landon, one of the little boys who seemed to be interested in Maria. Kordaine managed to make the older brother, Langley, infatuated with her, fell into her carefully-designed trap, and together, they caught Maria in a game of hide-and-seek and chopped her hair off. Being the 8-year-old criminal mastermind she was, Kordaine blamed it all on Langley and his newfound love of hairstyling. The boys were the sons of 2 prestigious lawyers who would be horrified if their son suddenley became gay under the supervision of one of their trusted friends (Kordaine's mother), so Kordaine's mother panicked, thinking that Langley wasn't quite straight anymore and blamed it on Maria (since it was her hair). Maria's mother was angry at her supposed BFF for blaming her daughter and their friendship became rather bitter. Of course, Maria and Kordaine still weren't on good terms (Maria ended up getting the boy, Kordaine got the hair and an unwanted 9-year-old stuck on her like a burr).

Will Candace ignore Mark forever, or forgive him, or CRUSH HIM WITH HER HIGH HEEL SHOES? Will Hammy-Ethan continue to suffer from Maria's love overdose? WILL MARK START BEING NICE TO HIS SISTER? FIND OUT ON THE NEXT (currently nameless)
