The silence was deafening, the forest stood still, as if waiting for the occurrence of some ghastly event. The trepidation could be felt in the atmosphere. I could smell the fear with each breath. The red eyed beast stood there, his head peeking through the bush, eyes filled with blood lust.

The beast steps forward from the bush and we come face to face with a gigantic wolf, his size almost equivalent to a wild bear, fur dark as coal and eyes red as blood, drool dripping through his incisor's, as if waiting to taste some healthy meal. In this case, the meal was us!

Standing in his full glory, looking down at us as if we were his mere prey, he let out a deep petrifying growl, whose vibrations could be felt in the ground beneath us.

Evan shifts besides me, taking hold of my hand in a tight grip.

"Start walking backward. Slowly" he says in a mere whisper.

Following his lead, I tried stepping backwards as silently as possible trying hard to not make any noise. A loud crack beneath the heels of my shoe resonates through the silence of the forest, I still, the thumping of my heart could be heard from miles, its pounding audible even to my own ears.

"Run" Evan yells, as he turns taking me with him and starts running.

I ran as fast as I could, as fast as my legs allowed me. The wolf followed closely behind us, letting out deep howls, as if enjoying the chase. The darkness making it extremely difficult for us to run, the branches whizzing past me, scratching my exposed skin.

My breath was coming out in puffs, my muscles protesting, the cold and dampness further adding to the list of problems. This was it. This was how I was going to die!

Suddenly, I was propelled forward, the impact of the thrust so profound that I lost my equilibrium, falling head-first on the forest floor. Warm liquid trickled down my forehead, dizziness overcoming my senses. I looked up to meet the red eyes of my tormentor, baring his teeth's at me, daring me to move an inch. He stood above me, head held high as if proud of his hunt.

The darkness was so penetrating that I could see nothing beyond the red eyes. The wolf stood still with his head tilted upwards as if sniffing something. Taking this as a much needed opportunity, I start sliding backwards, trying not to make any noise.

A rustling of leaves completely diverted the attention of the beast from me. Taking support of a tree trunk I try to stand, the dizziness still present, making it difficult for my brain to function properly. I start walking slowly afraid to make any noise, keeping an eye on the wolf who was still engrossed in smelling god knows what!

After achieving a proper distance from it, I start sprinting. I have been running for a few minutes now when I hear an angry howl followed by another, Its sound resonating throughout the forest. I force my legs to move faster as I knew what will come next if I stayed here.

"Emily. Emily" a voice whispers from a distance.

"Oh My God. Evan. Where are you?"

I could not locate where the voice was coming from, the darkness was the curse of this night, making it extremely difficult to discover anything. A hand wrap around my wrist tugging me backwards, warmth radiating through it.

A sigh of relief escapes my lips.

"I looked back to find you missing. Don't you leave my side now." Evan says, lecturing me, his voice tense.

I give him a quick nod, and start following him. Observing him I noticed he had a gash on his arm, dried blood and mud stuck to it. His shoulders were tense, while he kept looking around taking note of our surrounding for any upcoming danger.

"How did you get the cut? And where are we going?" I ask him.

"While I was looking for you I got attacked by another wolf, this one had different eye color. And we are going to someplace safe. God knows how many other of those beasts reside this damned forest". Evan says, aggravated.

We continue walking swiftly, dodging the branches that kept coming at our faces. After walking for fifteen minutes we enter the same meadow that we found this afternoon, the area was layered in moonlight, looking even more beautiful than before. Having no time to admire the beauty of this place we headed towards the rocks in order to find shelter for the rest of the night.

Evan turned towards me to speak something but stops, an expression on his face that I could not comprehend. Was that concern for me?

He steps forward grasping my face in his hand. A look of concern washed over his feature.

"You are hurt"

I nodded, but the movement caused wooziness to hit me hard, causing me to lose my footing, I stumble hard into Evan's chest. Black spot's blocking my vision.

"Emily...." Evan shouts.

That was the last thing I heard before I submitted myself to unconsciousness.
