What I was feeling could be only described with one word; Despondency, meaning: low spirits from loss of hope or courage; dejection. Yeah that's what I was feeling from past three days. Evan hasn't spoken another word to me from last three days and we were wandering with no actual destination or there was a destination which I was unaware off.
We had left behind the woods two days ago, now walking on black plains, its soil as dark as charcoal. No vegetation could be seen for miles. There was no shelter from the cold harsh wind blowing in the vast land. The place was mystical, it changed weather every few hours, summer, spring, autumn, winter; I have experienced it all in last seventy-two hours.
It was quite clear now that Evan knew where we were going, it was evident in every step he took. The long purposeful stride he was taking was enough evidence I needed to determine that he knew. I had given up on trying on talking to him and he didn't seem to mind it either. So embracing the silence I kept following him.
"We will take shelter here for the night", Evan declares. Oh so he is speaking now, I thought sourly.
I nod, keeping my expressions neutral.
I was so deeply engrossed in my thoughts that I hadn't noticed a small house, standing in the middle of nowhere. How strange! It looked dark and mysterious from outside, no speck of light could be seen coming from the inside. It looked pretty much abandoned to me.
"Do you really think it would be safe for us to stay here?" I question, momentarily forgetting that I wasn't speaking to him.
Nodding he saunters ahead towards the creepy-looking house. Sighing I follow him silently.
"Okay so this was our next task, assigned to me." Evan speaks up suddenly.
"Coming to this house was our task?"
"Yeah"
"Did they tell you what we have to do here?"
"No, they just told me to get you here and stay here till the next instructions."
"Well, let's get inside then. It's freezing." I tell him, mentally doing a happy dance. Finally we were back on speaking terms.
Going up the few stairs Evan knocks on the door.
"Why are you knocking? Is someone supposed to be here?" I question him.
"It's locked from inside"
Nodding, I sit back on the stairs waiting for him to get that door opened.
"Hi. We were expecting you guys. Come on in." A female voice speaks, getting up I come face to face with a short women, with petite frame, her blue eyes, pale complexion and blonde shoulder length hair made her look like a porcelain doll.
"Hi, I am Evan Carter and this is Emily Wilson." Evan speaks up.
"I am Amelia. Come in."
Stepping inside we enter into a brightly lit foyer, an L-shaped couch was set up against the wall, a few lounge chairs lingered throughout the room, fire glowing brightly into a fireplace. The place all in all looked cozy.
"So do you know what our next task would be?" I asked her.
"No. But my partner knows for sure. You guys can go upstairs and freshen up, Dinner is almost ready then you can meet him."
Nodding I head upstairs.
"It's the last room on your right" Amelia shouts from downstairs.
Collapsing on the freshly made bed, a sigh escapes from my mouth. It had been ages since I had felt softness of a mattress beneath me. I had been sleeping on the hard ground from more than a week now.
"You can go first and freshen up" Evan states, I look up to find him standing at the foot of the bed, rubbing his neck, looking way too awkward.
"Okay"
"Wait, Em"
"Yeah?" I wait expectantly for him to speak.
"I just wanted to say I am sorry for behaving so rudely and should have waited for you to tell your side of explanation. And I want you to know I will wait for you to tell me when you feel the time is right."
"What are you talking about?" I try a last vain attempt to hide my gruesome past.
"I know Em. But I will wait for you to tell me your side of explanation."
Sighing I sit up, I always knew I would have to tell Evan about my past but I never thought it would come so soon.
"Okay Evan I will tell you, let's just freshen up first." I state, knowing there is no other way round for this problem.
"Okay. But first can I do one thing?"
"Yeah? What?"
Stepping ahead he grabs my hand in his, gently urging me to stand up. Giving him a questioning look I do as he says. What's going on with him?
Tugging me forward he envelops me in his warm embrace.

One hour later we head downstairs, ready to meet the partner of Amelia and to know about our next task. Having solved the tension between me and Evan made me feel light like a heavy weight has been lifted up from my shoulders. But the pending conversation which I was yet to have with Evan left a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. I dreaded the conversation which I was going to have with Evan after dinner. Will he believe me?
Voices could be heard from the open view kitchen, Amelia was busy in preparing dinner, her short frame blocked by a figure sitting beside the kitchen counter, his back facing us.
Evan steps up, introducing himself to the stranger.
A vaguely familiar voice greets Evan in return. I step around the kitchen counter trying to get the look at this man's face. A feeling of déjà vu hit me hard, I had a feeling that I have been in this kind of situation before. I had a sense of foreboding, what I am going to see I won't like at all.
"Hi I am Gregg Jenkins. Nice to meet you"
I stood still, in a house filled with strangers, in the middle of nowhere, face to face with my past. The past which I had been running from, the past which I still had nightmares off, the past which I wanted to forget desperately
"Em.. You Okay?" Evan speaks softly in my ear. "This is Emily Wilson" he addresses the rest, while I stood there unable to grab what was happening around me, my mind replaying the events of that day!
"I know her" The devil himself speaks up.
"What? How?"
"I don't know if she has told you but can I talk to her for a minute, please."
"No. No. Evan, don't leave." I cry out, rising from my momentary lapse.
"You heard her. Say whatever you have to in-front of me."
"Ok, I am sorry Emily. I have made mistakes and I have paid for them as well. But most importantly I have realized my mistakes and I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am for what I did, even if you don't want to forgive me."
"Yes I can never forgive you." I utter, tears blinding my vision.
Leaving the kitchen I walk up towards our temporary room, Evan following right beside me.
"Emily, please tell me. Its killing me not knowing your side of story"
I nod. "Okay. I will tell you now."
