He limped towards us, his leg looking even worse than mine.
I stood frozen, posessing no idea what to do. Where had Gally gone?
Gally pointed a gore splattered finger at Tommy, his lunacy filled eyes narrowing. "You," he growled, his face contorted with rage, "It's all your fault!" Crossing the floor in a limping stride, no one had time to react as he slammed his fist straight into the side of Thomas's head.
Tommy yelped, crumpling to the ground like a rag doll.
His cry shook me out of my stupor. I leapt forwards, shoving him away from the Gladers and Thomas, knocking him off balance. He fell into the desk by the window, and its lamp crashed to the floor, where it shattered into an avalanche of glass shards.
Crash!

I braced myself for a counterattack, bracing my weight on my good leg. I was going to protect every one of the Gladers in this room if I had to feed Gally to the Grievers myself.
Gally only stood, his chin raising like Dalus's had before the banishment. "The shuck Maze'll kill all you shanks... The Grievers'll kill you... one every night till it's over... I... It's better this way..." he said, his voice disjointed, distant, "They'll only kill you one a night... their stupid Variables..."
I stepped forward. I was in no mood to listen to his rambling. He was going to expose us to the Grievers! "Gally, shut your bloody hole- there's a Griever right outside the window. Just sit on your butt and be quiet- maybe it'll go away."
Click-click-whirr. Click-click-whirr.
Gally's eyes narrowed to slits. "You don't get it, Newt. You're too stupid- you've always been too stupid."
I raised my eyebrows, unfazed by his insults.
"There's no way out," Gally said, his voice shaking, "There's no way to win! They're gonna kill you, all of you- one by ONE!" The last word was an inhuman screech as he threw himself towards the window. He had already ripped off one board before I realized what he was doing.
He was going to let the Griever in!
"No!" I yelled. He would not condemn everyone I cared about to death, just because he had gone and finally snapped.
Click-click-whirr. Click-click-whirr.
As I reached him, he ripped the second board off it's nails, and swung it backwards, slamming it against my skull. I had a second to register the spray of blood, my back hitting the bed, before everything went black.
