WICKED

The Creators were sitting in front of the room's windows, watching us through watery, narrowed eyes hanging over pinched cheeks.

Every one of them wore a dark black coat, one word pinned on it's front.

W.I.C.K.E.D.

It was them.

Undeniably them.

"Who are these people?" Chuck whispered, his voice strained with worry.

"The Creators," Minho replied with as much disgust as I was feeling. He spat on the floor, his brown eyes narrowed with hatred, his fists clenched. "I'm gonna break your faces!" he yelled.

"What do we do?" Thomas asked.

He was right.

Shouldn't someone be opening the door?

Shouldn't we be out now that the Maze was behind us?

"They've probably revved the Grievers back up," I said, feeling fear begin to come, "They're probably coming right-"

I was cut off by a beep.

An alarm.

Loud and insistent.

What was that?

"What now?" Chuck asked, the worry in his eyes reflected on every face.

We could only handle so much.

What if this was just another level of the Maze?

Finally, the alarm stopped, and a door opened.

We stood still.

What would come through? Grievers?

In came two people.

The first was a woman, wearing the same uniform as all the other Creators.

She was a Creator.

Her brown hair was pulled up in a tight bun, revealing a face as unsmiling as the Maze itself.

Next to her was a boy.

A tall boy, and broad shouldered, definitely not a Creator, but the overlarge sweatshirt he was wearing covered his face.

Okay...

"Welcome back," the woman finally said, her voice monotone, "Over two years, and so few dead. Amazing."

So few dead?

Faces, names, flashed through my mind.

Stephan. Nick. Ben. Zart. Jeff. Gally. Dave. Clint. Steven. Alby.

So few dead?!?

"Excuse me?" I yelled.

Her flat blue eyes looked over each of us before she shot me a glare that chilled my blood. "Everything has gone according to plan, Mr. Newton. Although we expected a few more to give up along the way.

Everything- according to plan?

So few dead?

I decided, yet again, that I had never hated anyone more than the Creators.
