Scott took me fishing soon afterwards. It turns out that Scott had been roaming this forest for about two months. He had been keeping track of the days back in his makeshift home that he promised to take me to.
The strange feeling had grown. I felt warm and tingly whenever Scott spoke to, touched, or stood beside me.
We had been walking for about twenty minutes until a wide stream came into my view. The water was clear and fresh. It seemed to glide lightly over the smooth rocks at the river's bottom. Small red fish swam throughout the water.
I stood in awe, staring wide-eyed at the stream before me. It seemed to lure me in. I wanted to be a part of the stream. It would be a shame to hurt some of these fish.
Scott came over to me and took my hand. He laced his fingers in between mine. That immediately brought me back to attention.
Scott's soft, sweet voice reverbrated through my head. "What's wrong Gwen?"
"I don't want to hurt these fish! They're living peacefully; we can't just come and destroy them!" My voice came out high and sqeaky, but I didn't care.
Scott's brown eyes brimmed with sympathy. "I didn't say that we were going to hunt them, you know. I was thinking that we could just come here to sit by the stream and relax. You don't have to be a pessimist." There was a hint of playfulness in his last sentence.
I glared at Scott. I'm sorry that being pessimistic is in my nature!"
He just laughed. "I was only joking about you. You don't have to take everything I say to be a rude remark."
I just shrugged. I wanted to end the argument before something happened between us. "Whatever."
Scott was still holding my hand. He pulled me across the forest floor to the muddy river bank. He beckoned for me to sit down next to him, so I did.
I looked into Scott's eyes to show him that I was being serious. "Why are you always touching me? I mean, we've only known each other for a day, and you've been all over me. What's your reason?"
Scott appeared to be hurt by my confrontation. I felt immediately sorry for hurting him, but I needed answers.
His tone tried to be nochalant. "I'm a flirtatious bastard, what do you expect? Anyway, I was testing something out. Don't get your knickers all in a knot over it okay?"
"I'll get my knickers in a knot when I want to! What are you testing out!?"
"I wanted to see how you would react to me. You just met me, yet you don't seem to care one bit about where I place my arms around you. Part of me just likes having you in my arms."
He was right. I didn't care at all about him touching me. Scott was aware of that, and I wasn't just about to change yet. "Are you confessing that you like me?" My tone had an unnecessary jab to it.
Scott sneered. "Maybe." He inched closr to me and wrapped his arm around my shoulders.
I felt that pang in my chest again. Only this time, I found out why it was there.
I was falling in love with Scott.
