Inspired by my 8th grade LA teacher Mr. Mere who asked us to write poems for the veterans when we went to Washington D.C. It turned a little darker than you wanted but you said you still liked it.

Politicians sent bombs but didn't think of the cons
You feel like the government's pawn
The jungle is hot and sticky and rotten
Something sickly fought in
Men fall to your left, then right
Before the first morning light
You just did as you were told
Nobody knew of the atrocities that would unfold
Pictures seen on TV are worse than they appear,
No longer did people in America cheer
Protesters rallied in the streets,
Women and children have been seen as something to mistreat
This war started for a good cause, then things began to change,
Vietnam became shooting range
You feel like the people in America betrayed you,
That's not something you should come home too
This didn't go as planned; You tried to save the day,
Be careful they'll send weapons disguised as words your way
"...Baby killer... Baby killer... Baby killer... Baby killer..."
Bruises on your face start to swell,
And the phrase everyone knows started as well,
"War is Hell."
