CHAPTER 10.

"Why are you smiling?" Mum demanded the second I entered the kitchen. "It's weird. You are also home early, which is weirder. It's only four."

"What, I'm not allowed to smile?" I furrowed my eyebrows, pulling her into a hug. "Hi. When did you get back?"

"About ten minutes ago," she sighed. "Something went wrong at work, but it's all good now. Dad's just in his bed napping so don't wake him up."

"Cool." I was curious to what happened at work, but I knew not to question her when she was tired. "I'll see you in a bit, gotta shower."

"Do not step out of this place until you tell me what you were smiling about," Mum threatened.

I slowly turned. "Seriously, Mum?"

"Seriously," she put her hands on her hips, and I had to resist the urge to laugh. "Be honest."

"Okay?"

"Is it about Ethan?"

I didn't reply, because I had already run out of the kitchen. "Love you, Mum!"

I ninja-ed past my dad's room, throwing my school bag onto my bed and sat on my bed, scrolling through my Instagram feed.

This was probably the first time in a while that I didn't go to the pool after school because I had spare time, but Ethan took up my time. That counts. Even if it is still about four.

God dammit, he just weaves his way into my mind every single second, it's frustrating. I just wanted to have a peaceful life, you know? Even with a brother.

I leaned back onto my bed, heaving out a sigh. My phone vibrated, and I lifted it up above my face to see a message from Jade. I hated the fact that I immediately thought it was Ethan.

Jade: better be decent mofo, im coming in.

I didn't have time to reply because my door opened, and Jade flung her backpack onto my bed, hitting my face. "Ow!"

"Sorry." She didn't sound very sorry.

"Yeah, whatever." I sat up, rubbing the side of my face that got hit. "Thanks for ditching me, today. Ethan had to drive me home."

"You're welcome," she smirked. "I know you loved it."

"Jade," I sighed, rubbing my temples. "You may be my best friend, but you are so fucking annoying."

"I know," she cocked her head to the side. "But you still love me anyways."

"I wonder why," I drawled.

"Oh, shush," she hushed me. "Now tell me about the ride back home. And while you're at it, tell me about when he brought you to school."

I sighed, and was about to tell her when I remembered something. Ethan said Dylan had a match earlier today. Maybe I could still go to that match and avoid telling Jade for a bit. "Hold on a sec."

I leaped from my bed and knocked on Dylan's door, and once hearing a grunt, I push the door open.

"Yes?" he raised his eyebrows in question, with his phone in hand.

"Don't you have a match today or something against Rivers Valley?" I asked, leaning against his door.

"Yeah, but it's a home match and it's at six," he shrugged, looking back down at his phone. "You coming?"

"Who else is going to drive you?" I rolled my eyes. "We'll take Dad's car, mine's too messy, and he's sleeping. Unless he wants to come."

"I dunno," Dylan shrugged again. "Your driving is really shit. I don't know how you passed your driving test, it's a wonder."
