Braden POV

I look at Peter. He looks really scared. And sad. There's a look of fear and sorrow glistening in his eyes. Maybe some guilt? Regret?

A paramedic soon comes out and bandages Peter's arm, and my shoulder.

She gets us cleaned up, and got us both some clean clothes. Neither of us spoke throughout the whole process. Both of us in our own thoughts. Too consumed within ourselves to speak.

The paramedic is finally done, and we wait there, in the waiting room for another couple hours, until finally, Peter asks me what is going on.
I'm surprised he didn't ask sooner.

I pause, thinking of a good answer that wouldn't send him screaming, or scare him so much he would go mad.

I turn to him with a firm expression and seeing his expectant, fearful eyes, my expression softens a little. I sigh. This is NOT going to be easy.
"Well," I say watching him carefully, "I'm Braden, if you didn't know, and I'm a Dark Hunter." He didn't say anything to that, just looked at me with an expression urging me to go on.
"So is Liv." My throat tightening as I mention her name. "We work for an organization that protects students at schools from supernatural creatures. We are lead by our Queen, Kerani." I see him stiffen at the mention of Queen Kerani.

"Believe it or not," I continue, "but this kind of thing is real. The supernatural creatures disguise themselves as human beings, and they want to kidnap children and switch places with them. The child would become a demon, and the demon would become human. That's how they obtain human forms. Obviously, we can't let that happen. So we protect the students. Livy......" I trail off. "Is more advanced, let's just say." I see Peter opened his mouth to speak, but I rush on. "There's a kid in every grade level, at every school, in the entire world that does this. Livi is the seventh grade guardian of your junior high. I'm the eighth grade guardian."
I see him shift uncomfortably in his seat and look at me with a fearful, yet intrigued look splashed across his face.
"So basically," Peter says. "You look out for us."

I nod. "That's one way of putting it."
We don't know what to say after that. I just sit there with my arms awkwardly clasped in front of me. Peter has his hands tapping his leg and his leg is bouncing up and down.
Up and down.
Up and down.
He looks really nervous. I can't blame him. So am I.
