Gerald POV
The fateful day had finally come. The festival opener. She hadn't spoken the whole day, when I woke up late in the afternoon she was gone, dinner set out for me and the crew and not a single note. In mere minutes was the introduction to the festival and no one knew what she had planned. Her parents even dared to stay out of curiosity. I showered, changed, and headed to the venue, already tons of people were gathered, drinking, smoking, enjoying life.
"Where is she?" I glanced back to see Dan before shrugging and lighting up a joint to the disgust of Linda.
"I dunno but she hasn't told a soul."
"She's with Coldplay" I glanced back seeing Gwyneth with a glass of wine. "With her niece and nephew too. Thanks again for making them laugh so much. They needed it after all of this and... You and Diana really... Explained it in a way Chris would have wanted." She cracked a smile before glancing over her shoulder. There she was, nearly glowing. She had on black jeans, converses, and Chris' jacket. She fixed the mic piece in her ear before glancing at me and giving a nod. This was what she had to do to move on, it could be seen on her face. Linda and John stood back with the kids as Bastille and I stood a little closer with Gwyenth. The crowd rawred as she walked out, some even crying. She sat herself down at the painted up piano before fixing the mic.
"Evening everyone! I would like to thank you all for coming out tonight really it means a bloody lot. I'm sorry Chris couldn't be here, but I have couple songs to play.... He was my best freaking friend and l wouldn't be who I am or even alive without him." She looked up at the screen, video of Chris sitting down at the very same piano. "I hope you all will sing along please." She took a deep breath and played just as he began to play on the screen. The very song everyone knew was coming. Chris's voice filled the air. Chills ran along my arms, the crowd hushing for a moment.
"When you try your best, but you don't succeed." Then the crowd and Diana took over. The crowd didn't miss a word, it was chilling. The hairs on my arms rose, as did my mother's who shivered. At the chorus Diana would stop, glance at the crowd and just take in them singing. When it kicked in, she mimicked Chris rocking on the piano stool, playing him key for key without missing a beat. Tears slid down her cheeks as she glanced at her brother, the last lines of the song coming when she stopped and stood, holding the mic at the crowd. They were in tears, so was I, which was rare.
" Thank you everyone... Now Chris wasn't a sad person. In fact through all of my tough times he made me laugh and smile. So I've got two songs for ya.. Will can you?" The violins started playing as Will did the famous beginning.
"Woahooo- ooo " It was like magic the crowd just took over as Diana laughed softly before jumping off the stage and running through the crowd. Everyone sung, I'll admit even I did. Viva La Vida filled the air then it was Paradise to end it all. It was too perfect to pass up or miss. In fact the whole day was perfect, she seemed gleaming especially with the shining ring on her finger. My mother of course had noticed many days before. She knew Diana was the right choice from the very beginning.
"Gerald?" She mumbled with a smile, the water bottle to her lips. "What are you thinking about?"
"You. My beautiful future wife." I smiled, pulling her into my arms as we sat back, watching Bastille rev up the crowd. He still made me uncomfortable sometimes. Even with Diana saying he had a girlfriend here in LA.
" Gerald?" Her eyes lowered. "I'm... "
"Your?"
"I'm... Ya know... Pregnant." I was frozen. In between excitement and passing out as she waved her hand in front of my face. I pulled her into my arms, I was shaking. Tears threatened to leave, but I laughed softly and hugged her tighter.
"How long?"
"I found out this morning...."
"This is so exciting babe. What's got you nervous?" I stroked her cheek before she sighed and shrugged.
"I'm afraid it will happen again Ger."
"Don't stress, we'll figure it all out. Alright." Here I was about to go on the other stage and perform while just learning I was gonna be a dad. " We gotta get going to the other stage. I got like 10 minutes." She laughed softly and took my hand as we walked to the golf cart, sitting in the back seat. Logic had opened the stage for the night, the crowd was rowdy as hell. Diana slipped my leather jacket on me and fixed a piece of my hair.
"Go get em tiger."
Diana POV
I woke up and snuck out of his embrace, we'd fallen asleep as always for a preshow nap. Room service was called and I ordered a ton of food for the whole group before getting ready in the bathroom. Peaking at me from my duffel bag was the box. It wouldn't hurt to see, after all we had been trying. Constantly actually. After this I would retire, no more music, just being a producer would be relaxing enough. I nearly choked on my own spit seeing those lines appear. It was happening it was really happening. Fuck.
I couldn't deal with this right now, I had a show to perform for Chris. Shoving the box and its contents back in my back I quickly got ready before heading to the venue as quickly as possible. Thankfully it was a short walk.
"You ready?" Guy mumbled, watching Chris' kids pay with the toys Gerald had given them.
"As ready as I'll ever be... Gather around mates." Guy, Will, and John stood in a circle with me. "I know this is gonna be hard for all of us. This is for Chris...for the fans..." They all nodded before we walked out towards the stage. I shot Ger a smile before beginning the show. It was magical to say the lease and more than I could have expected.
It was as if all these fans mourned with me for one last time. We all watched Chris one last time. The excitement was over so quick that I knew it was time. After all with the high risk Gerald had to know and surprisingly he took it well. Everything flashed by until he began to perform. He motioned for me to come out and I shook my head blushing.
"Everyone I want you to meet someone special to me. She's my world and I want you all to welcome her."
"Mama! Mama!" I laughed as the crowd began to chant, sheepishly I walked out, Gerald pulling me in for a kiss.
"Everyone this is my future wife... Diana and she's my world. I want you all to hear it from me... Cause I'm gonna be a dad!" The crowd screamed, though of course there was a few angry faces. Little did either of us know what this seemingly perfect moment had just caused.
