Rallix was the first to strike.

As soon as those last words left his mouth, he flew straight in for a head-on assault. Kevin, Zoey, and I braced ourselves for impact, hoping to launch some sort of counterattack.

As he closed in on us, smiling viciously, he raised his hands, ready to strike. Then, to our surprise, he fired a barrage of flares not at us, but straight down at the ground, making a sharp turn straight up into the air and missing us by a hair.

"What's he doing?" said Kevin.

Rallix stopped about 50 feet in the air over our heads, far out of our reach.

"This should be fun," he grinned.

He lifted his hand, igniting a small flare in his hand, taking his sweet time launching it at us.

"Damn!" said Zoey, "How are we supposed to lay a hand on Rallix if he's all the way up there!?"

"You're not!" Rallix answered.

He fired the flare in his hand straight down at us, while we dove out of the way just before it hit us. He laughed, raising both his hands, preparing two more blasts of fire. He launched them. And then two more. One after another, he bombarded us with scorching blasts while the three of us struggled desperately to avoid them.

"Run all you want!" shouted Rallix, "Your strength will not last you forever!"

"Neither will your power!" I retorted as I got back on my feet, "Are you sure you wanna play Cat and Mouse with us all day long when you're on a time limit?"

Rallix scowled, suddenly realizing that he shouldn't be wasting his time with us.

"Very well," he said, "I suppose I will simply have to try harder."

He slowly descended to the ground, touching down ever so lightly, while Kevin, Zoey, and I banded together, face-to-face with him.

"Try and dodge this!"

Rallix thrust his hands up over his hand, sending pillars of lava flying up behind him, and flung them forward. His power sent the masses of lava flying at us like a tidal wave.

"Oh shit!" I shouted.

Rallix flew up in order to avoid being swept in by the lava himself, leaving the three of us to take the hit. The lava masses came soaring up just under him before coming straight at us,

There!

Just before that lava came at us, I caught a glimpse of where Rallix had flown up from. My instinct told me that it was the only safe spot we could flee. Without hesitating, I took Kevin and Zoey's arms and flung them straight ahead before diving in between them. The pillars of lava came swinging down, crossing paths where we stood and leaving open the one spot where we were huddled together. I looked up and saw that wave of lava just over our heads, right before the rest of it went plunging into the lava pit just behind us, leaving us miraculously unharmed.

I stood up, while Kevin and Zoey frantically turned over, trying to grasp what had just happened.

"What the…!?" Kevin stuttered, "Where'd he go?"

I looked up. He wasn't there.

"I'm right here!"

There he was—right behind me! I turned around, just in time for his fist to meet my face head-on, knocking me flat on my back while I clutched my nose in pain.

Kevin and Zoey scrambled to their feet, ready to retaliate, but not before Rallix swung both his arms at them, nailing them both in the chest and sending them flying away from each other.
