There was nothing, nothing but her breathing to break the endless void of silence. She had no idea how long she had been sitting there with her mind over a thousand miles away and yet still she had yet to move, all around her was a deep black void like the endless reaches of space as random thoughts came to her she examined them closely before letting them go letting nothing disturb her peace as she searched for anything special or strange in the depths of her mind. It could of been a few minutes or an hour but suddenly it was like her entire mind had shifted and now there was color and feeling, all around her there was a brilliant mix of green, silver, red, and gold with hints of blues and yellows swirling around the sides. She felt grounded like for the first time everything in her life made sense and she could feel just how strong she would become but at the same time she felt like she was floating thru the air free from the mundane world below her were everything could be as she wished it and their was no limits or boundaries to hold her back and there in the brilliance of it all she saw it floating in a sea of green, a huge spiked mace with a connecting cord that could stretch on for miles. Unfortunately her excitement got the best of her as it broke her concentration jolting her back to reality were she fell to the floor with a few other thing.

"Oh Emerald are you okay?" Emerald looked up to see Pearl, Amethyst, Garnet, Steven, and Connie standing around her along with a lot of cluttered items.

"ugh what's going on? Did something happen?" Connie and Steven were staring at her with stars in their eyes and matching grins.

"Oh my gosh that was so cool what were you doing, you had your eyes closed and you were floating like three feet off the ground with all this stuff floating around you, how did you do that?" Connie was the first to lose out to her need to ask questions.

"I don't really know how I did that I was just meditating and then it was incredible I felt so amazing and I saw so much" Steven was the next to come forward with a question.

"Oh did you find your weapon?, what is it?" Emerald smiled as she stood up and the others moved back to give her some space. Reaching to her gem she focused on the feeling she remembered of being grounded yet free, with that in mind she saw her gem begin to glow and pulled bringing the huge extendable spiked mace out into the living room. Everyone gasped as Amethyst, Steven, and Connie ran up to it with stars in their eyes only to be even more shocked when they realized that the weapon was almost as big as they were since it came a few inches short of meeting Emerald's waist.

"This is so cool! You have a giant mace this is amazing! " Steven cried as he and Connie ran their hands along the spikes always careful of the sharpness of the bladed points.

"You two would you stop that any way it is an impressive weapon Emerald you should be very proud of your self. Garnet can you take Connie home its almost dark out" Garnet gave a small smile before giving Emerald a thumbs up and heading to the door

"Oh my gosh Steven we got so distracted by Emerald we forgot to give Garnet her letter" Garnet paused by the door before turning around.

"Read it" Steven nodded before opening the letter and reading it out loud.

"To Garnet
When I saw you rise from the sea like an ancient sea nimph a white hot steel pierced the deepest artery of my being. You, you are a cartiac surgeon and I am your transplant patient and you stand over my chest holding my still beating heart. Hesitating, waiting, wondering so I implore you to join me for dinner or maybe lunch if you want to keep it casual next Friday at the crab shack. I await your response as the camila awaits the rise of the moon, cause you know they only bloom at night and stuff.
Love
Jamie"

"I think Jamie is asking you out like on a date" Connie said as the letter ended

"Well that's not happening" Emerald was almost taken back by how quick Steven was to ignore the man's obvious affection for Garnet.

"What why not?" Connie asked

"Garnet is already in a relationship, she is the relationship. Ruby and sapphire love each other so much they can't stand to be apart so their always fused together as Garnet" that made a lot of sense now that Emerald knew Garnet was a fusion. Knowing that she allowed her weapon to dissappear and began helping Pearl to put everything back in its place from where it had floated to because of her Powers, some of Stevens stuff had even made it to the temple doors. After everything was picked up and Steven was getting into bed, Emerald relaxed back on the couch letting her self fall in to a dream like state.

It wasn't until a week later that she heard the news of Jaime's broken heart as a new mail carrier delivered something to the house. she watched from the porch as Garnet, Steven, and Connie ran to the other side of the beach looking for him Emerald would have joined the search but she was waiting for her own package that severeus told her he would send as soon as he could gather everything that he wanted to send to her first. She waited for hours looking out onto the ocean wondering random things to keep herself busy and talking to Amethyst and Pearl when ever they had a moment to talk, it was almost eight at night before she saw a shape moving across the sky towards her. It took another hour for the bird to make it to shore and the house where Emerald waited with her arm out stretched for the large grey owl to land on.

"Thank you for delivering this would you like to come in for something to eat?" The owl gave a few jerky nods as Emerald brought it inside, taking the package from the bird she set it down to rest on the back of a chair while she went to get some toast and bacon.

"Wow Emerald were did you get the owl from?" Emerald turned to see Steven walking down from his room so he could pet the owl as she layed out some bread and a bowl of water.

"Severus sent her to me with this package he said that the Wizarding world still uses owls and other birds to send mail" She gently scratched at the birds feathers gaining some pleased gurggling noises from it before turning her attention to her package, carefully opening it she found three book with the titles 'beginner's book of spells volume 1','a history of magic',and 'my magic and me: a beginner's guide to wandless magic' siting on top of that was a small hand held mirror set in an ornate black frame with iron ravens and emeralds set into the features with the last item in the box being a letter from Severus.

"Dear Emerald
I hope you are doing well in your new home and that you are adjusting alright, McGonagall sends her regards. I am sure you have noticed the three books that I have sent to you they will be useful in helping you understand the history of our world and your own magic. The beginner's book of spells is one that all first years are required to read as it will help you learn the easier and least dangerous spells first so you may get use to them before you try any of the harder spells, the book on wand less magic thou is not a book given to first years but it should help you to control your magic with out the use of a wand as your situation with being a gem would make it difficult if not impossible to find you a proper one. The mirror is a special magical tool, it connects to another mirror that I posses so should you wish to call me on it you only need to speak my name to it and mine will warm to let me know that you are calling. There are times when I will be unable to answer but if you keep the calls to around noon your time it will be just after supper here and I should be free to answer your call.
My deepest regards
Severus Snape"

Emerald and Steven looked down at the mirror in awe.

"Let's try it out"

"Wait Severus said we should call him closer to noon what if he's getting ready for his classes right now or just getting out of bed, it would be too rude to call him now. We'll wait for tomorrow alright" Emerald said as she stopped Steven's excited hand from grabbing the mirror and calling the professor. Steven gave a few whines but eventually went off to bed as Emerald sat down on the couch with her book titled 'a history of magic ' ready to start learning about the other side of the world.
