It was the middle of the night and Chloe was thirsty. She got out of bed and tiptoed downstairs to the kitchen to grab some water. While she was in the kitchen she heard a noise coming from the living room. She stopped dead in her tracks and held her breath. The noise continued.
She took a deep breath and grabbed a knife. She tiptoed into the living room and the noise grew louder. She turned on the light and saw a small brunette sitting on the couch crying.
"Dude! What are you doing!?" She yelled and put her hands in front of her face upon seeing the redhead had a knife.
"You... I... There..." Chloe stuttered.
She took a deep breath and reminded herself it was only Beca and not a burglar in her living room.
"I'm sorry, you scared me." She finally said.
She placed the knife on the end table and sat down next to Beca, who's face was red from crying.
"What are you doing up at two in the morning?" Chloe asked ignoring the fact that it was obvious Beca had been crying.
"I was thinking." Beca said and sniffled.
"No Beca, I think you were crying." Chloe said handing Beca a tissue.
"Chloe, can I ask you something?" Beca asked in a shy voice.
"Of course you can, you can ask me anything." Chloe said.
"Why did you invite Jesse and Aubrey over?"
Chloe had no answer. She realized she hadn't even asked Beca if it was okay with her.
"I'm so sorry Beca, it seemed like a good idea at the time."
"I'm nervous that Jesse won't like Reuben and Reuben won't like Jesse, or they'll get along so well Jesse takes Reuben away from me, and Reuben lives with Jesse and Aubrey forever!" Beca said, bursting into tears.
"No Beca that won't happen!" Chloe said and pulled Beca closer to her on the couch.
"What if he likes Aubrey better than me, and calls her mom? What if he starts calling Jesse his dad and they live together without me?" Beca cried.
"Beca, look at me!" Chloe said softly and Beca turned towards her.
"That will not happen. I promise, I would never let that happen." Chloe said, trying to calm Beca down.
"Chloe?" Beca said after a few minutes of silence.
"What?"
"Thank you." She said softly.
"You should probably get to bed and get some sleep. Big day tomorrow." Chloe said.
Beca lifted her head, which was on Chloe's lap, to allow Chloe to stand up.
"Will you carry me?" Beca asked.
"Beca, are you serious? You're acting like a four year old!" Chloe said, giggling.
"Please." Beca begged.
"Fine." Chloe said.
Chloe picked Beca up, carried her up the stairs, into her bedroom and placed her on the bed. Then she pulled the covers over Beca and gave her a kiss on the forehead before leaving.
After Chloe left, Beca felt the kiss linger on her forehead. It made her shiver having been kissed, even if it was only on the forehead. Beca, after knowing Chloe for fourteen years, still didn't know why Chloe made her feel this way.
