I grimaced as the plan slowly unravelled in my head. The same word continued to chime in my head. Escape. Must escape. I couldn't focus on anything. My birthday was soon and I did not want to spend it here. Four days to escape or you'll be here for your seventeenth birthday. You don't want that do you?
Of course not. So think. The door.
I stared at it for what seemed like an eternity before hatching a plan. Today I will escape. I swear.
Now, we begin, "Adam!"
I smiled as he opened the door. "What do you need, Princess?" he smirked sarcastically.
"Food. McDonald's to be exact," he looked at me in shock before nodding and closing the door.
I sat silent, trying to listen for the sound of the door closing. Click. There we go. Now, step two. The door.
I crept over and tried the handle. It was surprisingly unlocked. Apparently his victims never lasted this long so locking the handle was unnecessary. I stumbled down the stairs into blinding morning light.
I sat there rubbing my eyes, waiting for them to adjust.
Door. Where's the door? There it is. I looked out the back door, a perfect fairy tale yard greeting me. I snapped back into reality. Only focusing on escape. He'd be home soon. I knew this. I flipped the lick and pulled. It didn't open.
Again. Nothing. Oh no. I looked around. Glass door plus heavy object equals no more door. I looked around and spotted a stool. Good. I chucked its metal frame and covered my face as the glass shattered. For the first time in almost a year, I heard a bird chirp and the sound of a child's laugh.
People! I ran across the yard and opened the tiny gate stepping onto the warm pavement. I glared at my bare feet. Great. Just great.
I began to run. I needed a gas station. A phone. I ran for a few minutes before getting to a gas station. I slammed open the door panting.
The cashier looked at me, worried.
"Help," I panted. "I'm Katy- Ann Donavan. The Butterfly Killer took me almost a year ago. If a man comes in looking for me, hide. He's dangerous. He'll kill you too!"
I looked at me and nodded before pointing at the door and running to the men's restroom. Oh no.
I'm screwed. Adam walked in slowly. "Time to go home, Butterfly. It's time for dinner."
He was so calm it was scary. My mind kicked into overdrive as I raced out of the store and ran all the way back to his house and into my room. I quietly closed the door and sat in the furthest corner of my bed, crying. He's going to hurt me. He's going to hurt me. Oh no. I'm going to die today.
I watched the handle slowly turn and Adam walk in. "Please don't kill me," I sobbed quietly.
He laughed. "I'm not going to kill you. You're going to marry me and have my kids, remember?"
He walked over to me and kissed me roughly, his hands pulling me to him. My eyes widened. No. Oh no. I felt tears roll down my face as the realization hit me.
**** 1 hour later ****
I sobbed as he sat up, putting himself back together.
"Shower. Get cleaned up. Clothes are in the drawers," he pushed me onto the floor, grabbing my butt before stripping the bed and walking out.
I sat up and got in the shower, curling up in a ball on the floor and crying again. To waste some time, I decided to shave. What if I get pregnant? I have to run. I have to try again. Even if he does this again. I decided I would try again tomorrow. He'll think it'll be too soon for me to try to run again.
I slept soundly, excited for tomorrow.
