CHAPTER FOUR

“So, do I get to be in any of these videos?” I asked as I entered Mark’s bedroom with him.

“Not yet. We’ll have to take that slow. I was thinking of possibly waiting until after Christmas for that. Maybe I could say I met you at a Christmas party. No, then I would have to wait longer to introduce you…you can be one of Wade’s friends that I’ve gotten to know over the past few months,” Mark decided. He was being smart and devious again.

“Wait…does Wade know about all of this? And Bob? Do they know?” I wondered.

“What? You mean about this thing with you?”

“I don’t know, everything. You kidnapping me, you being an evil genius…all of that,” I said.

“No, they don’t know. Thanks for reminding me, by the way. I can’t say you’re Wade’s friend because he’d hear me say it, and he’d ask why I was lying about that.”

“Wait, aren’t they, like, your best friends?” I asked.

“Yeah, I would say they’re probably my best friends. Why?”

“I just can’t believe your best friends don’t know such an important detail about you, and yet you’ve revealed yourself to a complete stranger,” I said.

“You have no way of telling anybody. Some things are just meant to be kept secret,” Mark answered. I watched as he got everything turned on and set up for his videos. I was intrigued by his process. It really wasn’t anything special, but I was a fan of his. He was famous, in a way. Any fan of someone that they viewed as a celebrity of sorts would want to see what it’s like behind the scenes. I didn’t let it show, but I honestly was excited to be there for his videos, even if I wasn’t in them and he wouldn’t acknowledge me during them.

“Hey, since my ideas aren’t any good, why don’t you decide,” Mark said randomly, pulling me out of my deep train of thought.

“Decide what?”

“What I should tell everyone when I introduce you to the fan base. How did I meet you?”

I thought for a moment. I was always making and reblogging fan posts on Tumblr. I tweeted about Mark as a fan, and I had tried meeting him on Omegle before. I had exposed myself to tons of other fans. Mark couldn’t say he had known me for a long time, because the fans who knew me would be suspicious about the fact that I hadn’t mentioned the fact that I knew him personally.

“I recently moved into your apartment complex. I was just another fan at first, but since we live so close and I’m close to your age, you befriended me. We’ve quickly grown closer since then,” I said. I couldn’t believe how easily I was making up lies. Mark seemed to like it, though, which was good. If I could make him like me and if I could earn his trust, I might just increase my chances of escaping.

“That sounds good to me. Okay, you can’t be in my webcam, so you’ll have to sit in this chair over here,” Mark said, motioning to the chair next to him.

“You mean, I get to watch you play?” I asked. How embarrassing. I needed to learn how to not let my inner geek or fan girl show.

“Yeah, you do. I keep forgetting you’re a fan of mine,” Mark laughed. I took a seat next to him and watched him play a new Amnesia custom story. I got startled by jumpscares with him, but I made sure to be silent. I was a little sad when it was over.

Next was Trouble In Terrorist Town. As usual, he played with Yamimash, MangaMinx, EatMyDiction, and CaptainSparklez. I was sure it was a good stress reliever after he played horror games. It sure did make him laugh a lot, and even though I couldn’t hear what the others were saying due to the fact that he was listening to them through headphones, I laughed too. His laughter was contagious.
