CHAPTER THIRTEEN
Mark and I went shopping the next day like I suspected. We headed to the mall first. I went to a few different stores and tried things on before I found the perfect dress for the New Years party. It was long sleeved and silver, completely covered in sequins. It was short and it had a scoop neck. It was a beautiful dress, but it was sexy too. Perfect for the event.
“I found my dress,” I said happily as I exited the dressing room. I put the dresses I didn’t want back on the rack and kept my favorite in my hand.
“What, I don’t get to see it?” Mark asked.
“You’re looking at it right now. See? Pretty, right?”
“I thought you were going to come out of the dressing room in it, though,” he clarified, looking a little disappointed.
“Nah. You’ll see it tomorrow,” I told him. “Okay, before we leave this store I need to find some shoes. And jewelry. And a clutch, that’ll be much better than my purse,” I rambled, dragging Mark around the store.
“Do you really need all that for one party?” he asked.
“Yeah. I mean, I guess I do have jewelry that I can wear, now that I think about it. But the shoes are a must and so is the clutch,” I told him. He rolled his eyes but he let me pick things out to buy anyways. He knew that this party was exciting for me, plus I was great at finding amazing deals and sales, so my purchases were cheap.
After I was done shopping for myself, I helped Mark find a shiny silver tie to go with my dress. We were going to somewhat match, as if it was a school dance. Surprisingly enough, he was the one who suggested wearing something to match me.
We got our groceries after the mall trip and then we headed home. It was actually kind of nice to go out for a change. We even got lunch together, plus he held my hand when he noticed a couple of guys looking me over at the mall. This time it was out of jealousy rather than just being part of an act. I didn’t mind that at all.
The rest of the day was uneventful. There really wasn’t much to do except for wait for the party the next day. Mark spent the late afternoon and early evening recording videos and as usual, I watched, but that was about it. I slept easily that night.

“Are you done in there yet?” Mark pestered me the next day. We had to leave for the New Years party soon and I was getting ready in the bathroom.
“Almost. Give me two more minutes!” I said through the door. I had gotten dressed in there, shoes, dress, jewelry, and all. I also had finished doing my hair which was loosely curled and down. My makeup was almost finished. I had done a silvery smoky eye look. I applied a couple coats of mascara and put on some fuschia-toned lipstick and I was done. I looked in the mirror and decided that I looked good enough to reveal myself. I exited the bathroom and Mark was in the living room waiting for me.
“So, what do you think?” I asked, walking semi-gracefully in my heels. It would only take a couple minutes for me to get accustomed to wearing them again, since it had been forever since I’d had such a nice event to attend.
“Wow. You look…amazing,” Mark decided as he checked me out.
“Thanks. You look amazing yourself,” I answered. He was wearing a charcoal button up shirt with a silver tie, dark jeans, and two toned gray vans. He honestly did look pretty good. I wished he would dress this nice more often.
“Thank you,” Mark said. He pulled me close and placed his hands on my waist. I knew what was coming next. He kissed me aggressively until I reluctantly pulled away.
