CHAPTER ELEVEN

Mark and I did not kiss for the rest of the day. We didn’t exactly pretend nothing happened either, though. He smiled at me a lot, and he did act a little more flirty, it seemed. I hoped for a goodnight kiss, at least, but I didn’t get one. Instead I was forced to fall asleep replaying the kisses from earlier in my head.

The next day was more promising. After my morning routine and his, it was time for him to record videos. Once again he told me to join him so we could record together, so I did.

“Remember what happened yesterday after we recorded?” he reminded me. How could I forget? It was perfect. Even so, I played dumb so it would happen again.

“Nope. I don’t recall anything special or different happening,” I joked.

“Let me refresh your memory then,” Mark said, and before I knew it he was kissing me again. It was just what I wanted. I got a little lost in the kiss for a moment, but then I realized that we were supposed to be doing something productive.

“So how about that video?” I asked, pulling away from him.

“Let’s wait a few days before we make a new one,” he said before trying to kiss me again.

“But I thought you said we were recording one now.”

“Yeah, I know. I might have just said that to get you in here so I could kiss you again,” he admitted.

“You didn’t have to trick me!” I said.

“Sorry. I couldn’t help myself. It’s fun to mess with you,” he apologized.

“Whatever. I’ll see you later.”

“What do you mean? Where are you going?”

“The living room. If you’re going to mess with me then I’m not going to hang out with you while you record and edit,” I decided with a smirk.

“Fine, who needs you?!” he shouted as I left the room.

In Mark’s P.O.V.

What was wrong with me? As I recorded, it seemed strange to not see anyone when I glanced to my left every once in a while. Claire was just in the other room, but I was unsatisfied with her not being right there with me. I didn’t know what had hit me, but it sure was sudden. When I first kidnapped her I merely thought that she was kind of a cute girl, but then I bought her a necklace and teased her and kissed her and it all started to escalate quickly…

I finished my videos and once the last one was being uploaded I located Claire on the couch. She was curled up in a ball since it was extra cold again, but she was blanket less. The blanket of mine that had become her favorite because it was extra soft was in the dryer.

“You cold?” I asked.

“A little bit. Where’s the blanket? I couldn’t find it anywhere,” she wondered.

“It’s in the dryer, but I think it’s probably completely dry by now. I’ll get it if you’ll share it with me without deciding you’re too tired and you need to go to bed,” I told her, referencing the other night when I had been messing with her mind.

“No promises,” she said. I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. It had been doing that for the past few minutes because Bob was blowing up my phone with texts. I took it out of my pocket and set it on the coffee table before heading to the laundry room.

He did it again. Mark left me alone with a phone, a way to get help. But did I really want to escape? Maybe not. I was actually happy here. Mark was being good to me. Not only that, but he actually liked me. It truly didn’t seem like he was faking any feelings for me. He was being genuine. He was an inspiration to me and he was practically famous, even if it was on a small scale. I would never get a chance to hang out with or even live with someone at such a high status in my mind ever again. But then again, my family and friends were worried about me, and I missed them. I mean, I didn’t need to call the cops or anything. I could just contact my mom and tell her not to get the cops involved. I could tell her I wasn’t kidnapped, but I just left home by choice. I could tell her that I was okay. Yes, that’s what I’d do.
