CHAPTER SIXTEEN
The next morning, I had the tattoo dream again, except I stayed asleep longer, so it progressed more. Mark and I got to his apartment and he pinned me against the wall and kissed me intensely. His hands ran through my hair and up and down my sides. He wanted me and I wanted him back. His lips teased my neck and I ached for more…and that was when I woke up.
I realized that I was burning up when I opened my eyes. It had all seemed so real…I really needed to do something about these stupid dreams I was having. It seemed like having them was turning into a habit, and I was afraid that they would progress farther and farther every time I experienced them.
I got out of bed after relaxing for a couple minutes and put on a sweatshirt. I was always a little cold in the morning, even though I woke up hot this time. When I walked into the kitchen and saw Mark eating at the table, images of him from my dream flickered in my mind. I just stared at him, trying to push the dreamy memories away.
“Are you okay?” he asked as he took a swig of his milk.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” I told him. I wasn’t. I think it was the combination of me figuring out how to handle Mark’s dark side and the thought of him with dark clothing and tattoos that was affecting me so much. I realized that I could help him regain control, so it was like I almost wanted to see his dark side come out. Every girl is attracted to the bad boy type at some point, right? It must have been my turn to go through that phase. I had learned to see the good in Mark even when he was at his worst around me. Maybe it was time for me to see the good in Darkiplier. Villains, often times are much more cool and interesting than heroes. If only I had seen that when Mark first kidnapped me and gave me a speech about a similar subject.
Mark and I went through our normal routines. I showered and got dressed and he recorded his videos. He played a funny game and a rage game - luckily for him rage games never made him truly mad, so he never had to worry about hiding his secret on camera. It was a different story off camera, though.
“No horror games today?” I asked him once he began to upload his second and last video for the day.
“Nope.”
“How about a horror movie?” I asked.
“You want to watch one?”
“Yeah. Do you have any good ones?”
We looked through his movie collection and he did indeed have a ton of horror movies, many of which were good. He told me that often times he bought them or other people bought them for him before he had even seen them. Neither of us had seen Sinister, so we decided to watch that together. It was creepy, there was no doubt about that. There were definitely some jump scares that gave me an excuse to cling to Mark. He didn’t seem to mind.
We went out for dinner. We didn’t go anywhere fancy. We just decided to grab some Chipotle, since I had told him that I loved it and he had never been there before. We both got delicious burrito bowls and ate them there. We ended up stopping at a Redbox too, and we got Insidious Chapter Two, since we had both seen the first movie but not the second. For some reason, we were both in a horror movie mood, apparently.
Watching Sinister wasn’t bad. Even when we turned the lights off, light had still streamed in through the windows because it was still afternoon, so it actually wasn’t very dark. By the time we got home to watch the second Insidious film, however, it was dark outside. Mark made popcorn for the two of us and he turned off the lights, which made it very atmospheric this time. We got comfortable on the couch with blankets. I only agreed to hold the popcorn while nothing suspicious or creepy was going on, because I knew popcorn would end up all over the room if I kept it when there was a jump scare.
As it turned out, we both enjoyed the movie. We started to get tired relatively quickly after it was over, though. We watched TV for a while before I decided I was ready to go bed.
“Are you going to be okay?” Mark asked me.
“What do you mean?”
“Are you going to be able to sleep with the old demon lady and Mr. Boogie haunting your thoughts?” he asked with a smirk on his face. “Or am I going to have to sleep with you?”
“I think I can handle sleeping alone,” I laughed, making sure he couldn’t see my eye roll.
“Are you sure? Because I can sleep in there with you if you really want,” he assured me. I shook my head to let him know that I would be fine and I made my way into my room.
“Holy shit!” I jumped at least a foot in the air when I saw Mr. Boogie staring at me from Mark’s laptop, which sat open on my bed. An image of the demon from Insidious was hanging up on my wall, as well.
“What? Is something wrong?” Mark asked as he casually walked into my room.
“They’re gonna get me!” I quoted Mark, using the same voice he used when he said it in his videos.
“I’ll save you!” he said as he dramatically shut his laptop and ripped the printed picture off the wall. I couldn’t hold in my laughter.
“Thanks for saving me. I could have died!” I said as I placed my arms around his neck. He put his hands on my waist in turn and pulled me closer.
“You’re welcome,” he said before his lips crashed into mine. We kissed for a moment before I realized that I needed to question him.
“So, when did you do all that?” I asked.
“While you were in the bathroom,” he smiled.
“I wasn’t in there for very long, though!” I said.
“I’m quick,” he told me. I couldn’t argue with him about that, so I just smiled instead. He pulled me down onto my bed and we went back to kissing. My heart was racing by the time he was on top of me, kissing my neck.
“I’m tired, Mark,” I told him when I realized things were moving fast again. He stopped kissing me and went to get up, as if to leave. “You don’t have to go,” I said. “You can sleep in here tonight, if you want.” I wasn’t really sure why I said it, but I didn’t really feel like taking it back. What could go wrong? We didn’t have to do anything. We could literally just sleep together. That might be nice.
“Okay,” he said. He got up to close the door, because he knew I couldn’t fall asleep with it open. “I sleep in my underwear, I hope you don’t mind,” he added when he came back to the bed.
“So do I,” I lied. I said it seriously, and his facial expression was hilarious when I said it. “I’m just kidding,” I laughed.
“Yeah, I know,” he said, although I wasn’t sure if he was being truthful. “I wasn’t, but I guess I’ll keep my pants on,“ he laughed.
Mark stripped out of his shirt while I got into bed, and I tried my best not to look. I knew if I did, I wouldn’t stop staring. However, that was inevitable. I ended up checking out his shirtless self right before he got in bed next to me. The lights were off, but the bedside lamp was still on, so we laid there and talked for a few minutes, cuddling in the process. It wasn’t long before I could barely keep my eyes open, though, so he turned the lamp off and I fell asleep almost immediately, comfortable and safe in his arms.
